Exhaust Pipe Diameters: Downtube and Out
Ok, I have difficulty "seeing" pipe diameters while holding a tape measure. I could just cut the damn pipes and measure once they are off, but in this burg we have no muffler shops. I have one NAPA store I can go to, and then I would have to order a pipe if it is an off size.
On a 2001 2500 V-10 4x4, what is the outside/inside diameter of the downpipe that flows into the cat? And what is the size of the normal outflow pipe?
My cats are plugged so I need the pipe diameters in order to correctly get my parts together.
Thanks!

No, I am removing both cats, they are really plugged. I have no post cat o2 sensor so bye-bye.
I got it in the shop and just cut the pipes with a Sawzall. I soaked the clamp nuts for a couple of hours with penetrating oil and they wouldn't move at all. So off they went.
I measured the exterior of the downtube just forward of the cat at 2.245" and the pipe just prior to the muffler (some aftermarket previous owner installed), at 2.235". I went to the local NAPA and wouldn't you just know it: they had one section of tube 30" long and one sleeve to slip over the tube, and over the muffler inlet in stock. I had to order the other two.
So tomorrow afternoon the part's be here, but until then I am taking cabs. But at least the problem will be fixed. Now all I have to do is save $500.00 for a pair of Aero Turbine mufflers.
