Default 97 Ram Trans: to flush or not to flush?

Well I have done some seaching on this site and an tore on whether or not to have it flushed or just drop the filter? Let me know what you guys think. Also is a band adjustment nessary everytime you are into the tranny? The truck is a 97 4x4 with an automatic and a 5.9. Thanks a lot in advance guys.

if its shifting and acting right i would leave the bands alone and just drop the pan and change the fluid and filter. there is a nice writeup on pavementsucks.com w/pics. if you plan to keep the truck follow their tip and install a plug kit in your pan. it will make it a lot easier next time. you can get valvoline (and other) ATF+4 at walmart and local parts store. clean the inside of the pan w/brake cleaner to remove the slude, don't lose the magnet. tip.. loosen bolts in the back of the pan first and let it drip/pour/run into big pan, once the fluid level drops to the top of the pan put floor jack under it to hold it while you remove all bolts, then gently balance pan and lower jack. beware it is heavy and awkward when full of fluid. cleanup with kitty litter. this will remove about 1/2 of your fluid. after a month or so drain the fluid through your new pan plug and change it again and admire how easy it was.
