Default Cat Gone bad

Hey guys. The cat converter on my 96 finally went out. I do have the warranty letter but we've passed the 12/30/06 mark. I work at a dealership and they said that if I supply the part, they'll do hte labor for free. So i was looking for suggestions on the best bang for the buck when it comes to cat. converters.

Heres the deal the first week i bought my truck the cat plugged up really really bad. Ok no prob well i got online and ordered a high flow magnaflow cat. It ran better a lil deeper tone and about 10,000 of hard miles i pop my hood and its red where ur headers go on the left side. So i said screw it cut it off and it sounds and performs like a dream! I heard the cats burn up bad on these trucks. maybe its my driving but i think u would be better of guttin it or cut it off!!! thnx!!!

Of course you are assuming he is in one ofthe few states that has no emissions standards or inspections. The problem with the cats in these trucks has to do with the original ones you shouldn't have a problem with the replacement. If it was red hot as you indicated I would suspect there was some other problem contributing to it.

i wouldnt cut or gut your cat cause you will lose backpressure wich means you could lose power, and if you have emission laws then you wont beable to inspect it.
