1998 Ram 1500 Infinity stereo speaker question
I have a 1998 Ram 1500 Infinity stereo with the cd/cass/radio combo with the full Infinity speaker system with the tweeters on the pillars. From reading on here I know that the front speakers are powered with a seperate amp. My question is this. I am wanting to replace the stereo unit with a aftermarket one. Say a Sony or something simular. But I was wondering if I will need to replace the speaker wires that run to the front speakers or is there a way to by pass the amp and not have to run new wires? What have some of you other guys done? I want to use the tweeters in the pillars also. Let me know. I know a lot of you have done this same thing.
If you are just replacing the deck you do not need to modify the factory wiring at all, the stock infinity system will function just fine. If you are planning on installing new speakers, you will have to either bypass the amp or run new wiring to the doors.
You will need to hook up the blue white wire on the new radio(remote turn-on lead) to the blue wire that is on the harness that plugs into your factory harnesses.
Is the stock amp located under the drivers side dash? I'm having problems with my speakers, most of the time just the passenger side door one works. Sometimes all of a sudden the drivers side will turn on for a few minutes and the same with the tweeters in the pillars.
The reason I asked if it was under the drivers side dash is because I can hear electrical clicking sounds coming from that area when the speakers act up.
Any thoughts?

I can backup what habeba86 said. If you don't do this, you will get no sound from the front speakers...doesn't sound very good.
king electro, I have the same problem. No sound from the driver door speaker, although I do get a little sound from the driver side tweeter. Noticed it after I changed my deck last fall. I haven't had a chance to go troubleshooting yet. Has anyone else experienced this and found a cause? I was assuming it was a speaker issue but maybe not... Thanks.
