Rim sizes for 01 ram
I'm planning to swap out my factory 16x7 rims for some 15x8 or 15x9 rims and bigger tires, I'm just not sure what bacspacing I need to get before I make the swap. I'm pretty sure the factory rims are 4.5" backspacing. Can i use a rim with a little less back spacing in a wider size to keep a larger tire from rubbing when the wheel is turned to lock. I am currently running 255/85r16 tires with no lift and they work fine. I am planning to change to a 35x12.5x15 with a 2" leveling kit. I test fitted with a 315x75xr16 on a friends rims and they worked pretty well, just a little rub at full lock, and with the suspension flexed all the way. any help would be great. Thanks
what year is your ram? i have heard of people having problems with15 inch rims not fitting and hitting the calipers on i believe 98 and up rams becuase of the dual calipers....i heard you can grind the caliper to fit....
its a 2001 quad cab with the long bed. I have heard that I will need to grind the calipers to make the swap work, I came to terms with that a while ago. I was actually thinking about swapping to an aftermarket caliper with a lower profile, or maybe swaping in a set of calipers from a pre 98 ram.
you said you put a set of 315/75r16 on your truck and it just rubbed at lock and full flex? do you have the offroad package or do you have just a plain jane 4x4? i have an '01 too and want the biggest tire for the smallest lift.
It is just a pretty standard 01 1500 quad cab. I tried the 315/75r16 last summer and they fit pretty well, but they look like they will definitly will need ateast a 2" lift in the front to keep em from rubbing. for the cost of any decent tire in that size its probably cheaper to downsize to a 15" rim, thats why I started this thread.
20dodgeram01, what is the back spacing on the rims you have on right now? I have no problem going to a 6" kit if I need to, but I think that I am going to try a smaller lift first to see what will work the best. I still drive this truck everyday, I just need it to be big enough to be able to get back to camp, 33" are just not enought when its wet.

3 5/8's backspacing.. they are eagle alloy 186 series 15x10's... 1 tried with just a 3 inch suspension lift and it rubbed the hell out of the body.. so i need to intall a 3 inch body lift on top of that to clear it
when i tried to get 15x8 on my 01 ram they said that you cant do it but i dunno something about the spacing and you cant go any smaller but i u can get 15's ima be mad cause that would have saved me so much money
so can you get 15's on 01s and up?
