Cat & O2 sensor question
I am installing headers on my 98 Ram ( see sig for info) and I've gotten alot of great advice on the setup such as do not go 3" exhaust stay at 2.5". My question is I was going to do away with the cats and run the black Flowmaster Super 40 series mufflers. Now I can install the O2 sensors with the weld in adapter holes but without running a cat will this affect my engine and check engine light. Also I did this to my Stang but I had MIL eliminators that "fooled" the computer to keep the light off. I saw in one of the replies a mention of a "sims". What is that and where can I get them? And last but not least I have a 3" body lift in addition to my suspension lift, I want to replace my fuel pump, is the 3" lift enough clearance to get the pump out of the tank or will I still have to drop the tank? What's the best replacement sfter market fuel pump? I know this is alot but any help will be greatly appreciated.
here is a good site for your fuel pump...http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php
On the cats it is hit or miss on the CEL coming ong on i have gutted all my cats and mine never came on and ive heard from alot of guys that theirs didnt either...but ive heard some that did...if you need to get a o2 sim here is a link i know theres more sources..http://www.thefastman.com/02Simms.asp
And for the fuel pump removal you will still have to drop the tank unlees there is some way you can get it out with that clearance
youll love the sound of the 40's with no cats they sound sweet.....

You'll still need the forward O2 sensor ... it's used by the PCM to set your air/fuel ratio. The aft sensor tells the PCM that the cat is doing it's job ... which of course, if you take it off ... it isn't. If you can pin the reading to a little under a volt ... the PCM will think the cat is still operational.
