+1 on Fram filters. I also will not use Pennzoil as it has parrafin as part of it's base oil. When I was working as a Cab mechanic we always changed at 3000 miles and I have seen cabs retired at 500,000 miles with the original engines still running well, if the driver brought it in at 3000 miles (or close to it) every time and didn't dog the engine all the time.
I totally agree. Maintnance never hurts anything. I run Synthetic Valvoline (Comes with a reminder sticker) and a Purolator Pure One filter, so thats why I go by the 5,000 mile. I never understand why people spend more money on Mobil 1 or Royal Purple oil. Why not run Pennzoil or Valvoline? Its cheaper, much more plentiful, and I have not seen any evidence why Pennzoil or Valvoline is not as good as RP of M1. Also, Valvoline will garruntee you!
People like paying for a name thinking they get better quality. the same can be said about fram oil filters. They're expensive and are less efficient and are worse than the auto store generic. There have been studies done that prove brand name oil is the same as generic oil.
I have to agree with PurplDodge. Although I usually use Mobil 1 fully synthetic in my truck as its only 4 dollars more a gallon then synthetic blend valvoline. But latley I have been sticking with Valvoline, I believe its 18 dollars a gallon. You really can't go wrong as long as you stay on top of things. And I can understand on waiting 5K miles, and even though its scientifically proven to be okay to wait 10k miles etc.., I still wouldn't go any further then 6k miles between changes, you should take pride in changing your oil and making sure your engine is in tip top shape. The oil is the blood of the engine, keep it fresh.
And just remember to, .... "THINK WITH YA DIPSTICK....JIMMAY!"

Problem is that is some places they have the market rapped up. In SoCal you go into any WalMart and they have 99% Frahm filters. A smattering of others that probably wont fit the vehicle you need. PepBoys, O'Reilly's, They have 60-70% Frahm. It's hard to get any real variety out here, and I really don't want to mail order oil filters. After reading that article, I have to see what I'm going to do. He didn't mention who makes MOPAR filters. The Motorcraft were OK in his article so I guess I can use those for my Mustang.
