ugh with the stereo
aight all.. ta hell with the 99 dodge ram with the crappy amp i cant find.. i traded it in today.. yea.. i did.. traded in my beautiful 99 dodge ram 1500.. 140k miles.. 5.9l .. am i gonna miss it.. HELL NO.. i now am the proud owner of a 2001 dodge ram 1500.. only got the 5.2 in it.. only down fall.. so far.. only has 110k on it.. has around 5 inches of lift.. got 35's under it.. cromed out nice.. got a couple pics.. but it was dark.. will post more tomorrow when its light.. but now i need some advice.. last jacked up truck i had was a 2000 tacoma.. much different.. not as high.. the new dodge.. seems to be kicking pretty hard between gears.. not all the time.. but more than i like.. is this because of the bigger tires? i wouldnt think so.. also.. i took it on the highway.. nice control.. but when i set the cruise control at 70.. when it slowed for upshift.. it would shift up not only one gear to regain speed.. but 2 gears.. and my rpm's were at almost 5k .. took the over drive off.. and it stayed steady at 3k.. but it kept speed good.. any ideas? also after that stunt.. i heard what sounded like some 'tapping' in the engine.. and maybe some spark knock.. hope like hell the plenum isnt going on this one being i just replaced the plenum on my old one.. any advice would be great.. thanks a bunch
the only thing wrong with your truck was the radio? i dont understand? tapping in the engine, it means only one thing, plenum time. i just finished mine up today, not a hard job, just tedious. as far as the cruise control and dropping 2 gears, who knows, the previous owner prolly didnt regear it. it more than like still has the 3.55 gear ratio in it. mine runs about 3k rpm out of O/D doing about 70 and i have the 35 inch tires and 3.55 gears so, regear and that will most likely fix that problem. Ive never been able to get mine to shift out of O/D and down one gear, it always wants to jump to that high gear sending the rpms way the hell up there
lol.. no.. the radio issue was with the old truck.. 99 ram 1500.. 2 wheel drive.. 140k miles on it.. i wanted to put a new head unit in .. i was also gonna do a boat load of mods to it.. but i bought this truck.. i now have the 01 ram 1500 .. 5' lift w/ 35's under it.. figured if im gonna do it.. do it right.. and upgrade all of it.. one other problem i have noticed.. along with the shifting issues.. the 4 wheel drive if i put it in 4x4 and rock it.. i.e. forward reverse forward reverse.. do thata few times.. it will kick out of 4 wheel drive into neautral.. also.. the 4x4 shift **** moves alot too as far as when theres tension on the trans. motor/tranny mount? any help? thanks
is the lift all suspension or is it combined with a body lift? if theres a body lift, someone may not have adjusted the t-case selector linkage and that might be the reason its kicking out of 4wd
I would have to agree on the gear and RPM ratio with cruise. If your speddometer is reading 70 then you are actually running about 77-80 with 35's on it. The RPM's are around probably 16-1700 at 70 and to maintain speed it will have problems under 19-2000RPM's. Before I regeared mine if the speedometer was under 75 I had to be on a flat road to leave O/D on. So I had the option of 25-2800 RPM's or leave O/D on and loose speed on slight inclines, and hit the O/D button when I needed a boost.
The shifters move around a little. Not too much though. Might want to check the bolts that hold the shifter to the case. A couple have had them come loose or while lifting it didn't get tightened back down. Side to side or all over?
Never intentionally rocked back and forth for the hell of it, but it should stay put.?????
