And BTW, I have to go out anyway to get the RIGHT filter! LOL The guy asked me what tranny I had I told him 46re and he gave me the one listed except 727. LOL And I can't believe what a hassle to find a socket to fit the band adjusting screws. A 5/16 open end fits both forward and reverse adjusters, but no socket fits the reverse and only an E-12 or E-14 (forget which one now) will fit the forward. My set does not have an E-11 or E-13 if they even make them.

 

i looked for that perfect spot, and just never did find it. i wanted it at the very rear, but that was under the solenoids, and i was afraid if it might hit, especially if i hit a rock or something. i thought about putting it on the sides, but was afraid i'd get it too low, and it might leak. so i just put it in the middle of a panel where it wouldn't hit anything.

when changing the fluid, its sure a lot nicer to drop an almost empty pan, rather than one thats overflowing in oil and weighs about 30 pounds... the engineers and accountants that design a transmission w/o a drain plug - i'd like to just beat em over the head.

 

I hear ya! I was covered last nite, LOL Hair and all. I looked on Advance Auto site , now I have to put some POS filter on I never heard of instead of the Wix I had . The one on the truck has 3 bolts and is mainly all filter material, the one he gave me has 2 bolts is all metal on one side and plastic on the other, with filter material inside. I don't understand why they list it as 727 instead of 46re, I know they came from the same, but geez. LOL

 

I put the plug in the back of mine on a side wall, as I just didn't want it to catch on something should I ever hit something from underneath.

There's some space on the back sidewall on the passenger's side right near the "corner" on that side. That's where I put mine.

I sealed the threads and the hole I drilled with some Ultra Black and let it set up for 3 hours before reinstalling and refilling. The little rubber O ring never sealed properly for me.

After seeing the trans oil "cooler" in the radiator, and the little aux cooler they added for the tow package, a double deep pan is next on the list.

 

shop carefully. i think most of these aftermarket pans are interchangable to 518, 727, 46rh, 46re. they advertise as 1 qt over stock, 2 qts over stock, 4 qts over stock, etc. they base this claim off the 727. i think the 46re is already oversized deep compared to the 727, and so some of these pans are not really oversize.

compare actual depth in inches.

i've thought about this some, but i did the aux cooler and remote filter first. i just can't bring myself to spend $200 on an aluminum pan that probably cost $10 to mfg.

The Mag-Hytec 727-DD was the pan I was looking for. Damn expensive though.

 

The thick black plastic filter is for the deep pan 46re, 47re, and 48re.

The thin yellow filter is for the shallow pan 46re, 47re and 727.

You expect advance auto to know the difference? Most of them dont know their elbows from the ********.

 

They don't know crap is right. I went to get the plug this morning with the part #, 2 different part #s and the morons had both, but I had to find them hidden on a shelf in the back, plus the computers were down, so the filter had to be by the book, NO book for the brand they sell!LOL Five other brand books! I was like WTF! Just give me the plug, OH WAIT! The computers are down we can only take cash right now,now I'm really pissed, go to the atm to get some cash,mind you it's snowing heavy and the roads suck and I'm driving a VW Cabrio! LOL Last time I will ever go there, no matter what.


Anyway thanks for the info,my pan is like 3" deep so I got plenty room.
