Exclamation Fog lamp question I dont get it!!!

I spent about 20 minutes trying to find something using the search function, but didnt come up with any thing.

My situation: I have a 99' ( you can see it in my sig pic). I just got OEM type fog lights that are for the "non sport" application. I dont see how they mount and they seem too big. they are 3-3/4' diameter.

Would love someone to enlighten me as to how stupid I was somewhere along the line here...lol

your truck didnt come with fog lamps? if thats the case then your bumper doesnt have the mounts in them and the fog lamp seems too big, because the hole in the non-fog lamp bumper is smaller. i remember a while back someone did the mod by cutting the hole larger to fit the oe lamps and used bolts through existing holes in the steel part of the bumper (behind the plastic) to mount them.

That makes sense. I assumed that the hole would be the same and there would be a mount and that the truck just didnt come with them. They actually had different plastic pieces with larger holesw and mounts in the bumpers? That is suprising....makes sense though unfortunately for me.

its easy, i cant find the thread, but i think i can figure it out.

you will need to cut the hole for the lights to the proper size, thats pretty straight forward.

for the mount, if you take the black top plastic guard off your bumper, im pretty sure there are a bunch of holes in the steel. i think there are two on each side that line up with the position of the foglamp brackets. just use bolts to hold them on and put the cover back on, you wont even know the bolts are there.

my dads 98 has the holes that are too small and i'm gonna cut em out tomorrow for his aftermarket fog lights i don't know why they wouldn't use the same plastic piece for all rams with and without fog lights.

That would be awesome if you could photograph the procedure. I looked behind the bumper and dont really know how I would mount mine. They are OEM parts, so they have two rectangular holes that look to be made to snap onto clips.

I have some factory lights that I will be putting in also. But, bottom line is, at the very least the black plastic cover on the bumper needs to be removed at least partially(which still may mean bumper removal) and some oem clips and bolts will have to be purchased. Unless I can get some some aftermarket fasteners from my local parts store.
