Default engine interchange

I signed up here trying to find info for my father. He has a 2000 Ram 1500 with the 318/auto in it. Apparently the motor is bad, he was told its a spun bearing now its knocking in the bottom. I have a friend with a 318 out of a 94-95 Ram and was wondering if this motor would bolt in with no mods. Thanks for any help.

Tony

I'm not positive, but I don't believe it would.

The basics are the same, but all the wiring would probably be different. 1994-1995 were OBD I and 1996-2001 were OBD II.

Someone correct me here if I missed something.

best bet would be to get them side by side or if that fails take lots of pictures and compare them. I would imagine that they are the same from the valley down.but thats just a guess.

You would want to fix the plenum while it was out any way.

Mechanically wise, I bet they are almost identical. The computers will be different, the wiring will be at least slightly different, and the sensors will be different.

I know for 95% sure, for example, that the injectors on a 1995 are different then the ones on a 2000.

Agree with TruckinDodge and jasonw that they are near the same. Since you mention a spun bearing I would bet you could take the donor motor, and use it as a short block replacement; transfer over heads, intake, fuel system, accessories, etc. and it should work fine.

Default 95 5.9 engine

i have a 95 2500 with 376,000 miles on it that i drive everyday i just today found a 2001 5.9 with 40,000 miles on it got it home and looks like everything is going to work ok, the 2001 doesn't have a egr valve but everything else looks real close. it came with the wiring on the motor so if the injectors are different i can rewire, the intake manifold other that the egr looks the same i know the worst thing that i will have to do is swap the intake manifold and exaust manifolds if i want to keep the egr. what i am going to try to do is just put it in and hook up everything i know tps and idle air are different wiring but looks real easy to swap. if you like email me and i will let you know how it all works. thsj360@gmail.com
