Default What is a good RPM at Idle?

I think my truck could use a tune up. What is a good RPM that the truck should be running at while the engine is at idle? I think mine is running a little low. Previous owner did not take care of the truck and I think it needs a tune-up. I was hoping to do new plugs and wires.

So, what RPM is good for a 5.2 at idle? And, any tips on plugs and wires?

thanks,
pf

5.2L and 5.9L should idle the same, IIRC.

At cold it will, of course, be higher until it warms up, but after its reached operating temp, it should idle somewhere near the 600-700 RPM range.

As Jason said, when my 5.2 is warmed up, it will idle between 550-700.
What's yours at?

Sorry, forgot to answer this part initially...

For plugs, if you are having pinging issues, Autolite 3923s. If not, Champions are the most liked, but NGKs should be decent to.

Wires: any good set will do. Autolite Professional 7mm were my choice, can usually be found at Advance Auto. Otherwise, you can always order a nice set of 8mm MSD wires or similar from an online parts store.

Ok. Mine is running about about 700. I was just checking because I thought it was low. So, I guess it's fine.

thanks

My 5.2 idles at about 900 cold, and then right around 600-650 when it's warmed up.

Mine seems to idle at...400.... But my battery gauge generally reads about two volts higher than it actually is....I just bought the truck so I'm not entirely positive if the gauge is work properly but I think they do... With the exception of that battery gauge but right now it's reading 12 so I may have just fixed that recently with my most recent efforts...
I don't know I'm just really confused by this truck...

All I can say is "Chrysler wiring," half my gauges don't work but the truck runs fine
