That's just a manufacturing code. The model is a 70, which is consistent with what came on a '99 2500. Are you looking for information or an argument?

Here's the 70 under my 2500. See any differences (other than mine's not filthy, leaking and has no loose cover bolts)?

Mine is loose and grimy becasue the ring gear is hosed up. I just set the cover back on it. I am not arguring, Just trying to be certain. Older dana 60s adn 70s had a casting on them that indicated which it was. I have found no such stamp on mine. Everyone i called for parts keeps telling me its a dana 60, Everyone on herer keeps telling me otherwise. If someone can run the vin i would be happy to send it. I just want to know for sure either way. According to the info i found from daidge in 1999 the gas 5.9 should be a dana 60 V10 was a 70 and CTD was the dana 80. I dunno. I ahev always been a gm man till this truck, so I am in new territory.

Lots of 2500 Rams have a Dana 60 rear. If I am not mistaken, 5.9 gassers got the 60, while the deisel/V-10 with auto trannys got the 70, and the deisel/V-10 with manuals got the 80.

Its difficult to know which one it is by looking, as the 60 and 70 both have the same dif cover.

I forgot I had the build tag off the rear diff. The numbers are:52069457AF.
Its a dana 60 . From waht I have found all 2500 with a 5.9 had a dana 60.
Sorry to bother everyone , but I found the answer.
