Those are the rubber ones and, somewhere in this forum, I have some really good instructions for how to create leak free gaskets. It was in an intake thread.

Recommendation: NOT to use that material. As stated earlier by me, get the same gasket set (same exact part No) with the -1 at the end of the P/N. The -1 is the suffix that is ammended to the P/N that calls out the composite / steel seals whereas, the NON suffix P/N calls out CORK.
I found it at O-Reily's / Kraigen. Order it from Summit, Jegs or Autoparts warehouse etc etc.
I know how difficult it is to find the CORRECT parts in a hurry via the net but, all you need is to go with Felrpo's -1 kit and some Gaskacinch and you'll be all set.
Ok, now, in regards to RTV being used for front and rear seals:
This is one of those things that some swear by while others state that the RTV breaks down with oil over time and, it's well known that RTV's are not really compatible with motor oils specifically.
However, depending on WHICH RTV is used, makes a HUGE difference in reliability of the seals.
PERMATEX makes some stuff called HI-TEMP BLACK which is oil resistant that "should" work.
I have used both methods to be honest and, the last time the intake was installed, I was in such a race to finish (in order to get out here for work) that I used RTV in place of the rubber end seals. Is it holding up? I don't know because I haven't checked the rear with a mirror to find that out.
However, I don't smell it so, I am going to guess that it is not weeping but, until I get a mirror on it and really look at it, I have no way of knowing.
I have always used the steel rubber inserts with tangs that insert into the seal holes along with a 1/4 inch bead of PERM HI TEMP BLK in all four corners PRIOR to placing the main gaskets in place. This way, the gasket sits IN the RTV so that it is completely enveloped not just ON TOP of the intake side of the gasket.
I have always used Gaskacinch for everything including water pumps etc and have never once had a failure- EVER. IT's that F-ing good. That product is flexible and so, it handles shear loads remarkably well thus, the gasket is not torn or ripped under prolonged use like some other materials.
I have NEVER had a leak using that method however, after speaking with HUGHES about what their customers use, most toss the end seals and run nothing but RTV. But, what they don't tell you is this:
That most of those guys use a STEEL insert - just like the end seals included in the -1 kits. These are perforated steel inserts that have tangs as well and, you envelope the entire steel insert with RTV.
