Angry P1494 has been the nightmare

Okay, I have fought this code (P1494) for the last two months. I replaced the hoses that were corroded or cracked, checked the LDP and even installed a working one off another truck and I still get that code. Yes I have cleared the code by; my scanner, the Hypertech programer, resetting the computer.. I checked the vacum lines under the chassi and top of the gas tank, also replaced the fuel cap.

the next step it checking the pvc and torque the intake system, after that I guess Ill take it to the stupid dealer..

Has anyone had this Problem or am I missing something? any ideas

P1494 Leak Detect Pumps SW or mechanical fault
Leak Detection Pump (LDP) switch operation is monitored immediately after a cold start, with ambient temperature 40-90 degrees F and engine coolant temperature within 10 degrees F of ambient temperature. DTC will set in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) memory when PCM does not sense a change in switch state when LDP solenoid is energized.
Possible causes are:
  • Leak or obstruction in LDP vacuum supply.
  • Defective LDP.
  • LDP switch senses circuit open, shorted, corroded or defective PCM. The switch connector is a very common problem.
So it seems the code is set at startup, when certain temperature parameters are met - which may be why the dealership said it's ok to drive.

The gas cap was replaced already. After clearing (erasing) the code, it wont pop out again after 5 days or if I accelerat the cycle rate which is 3 days. does any body know how to accelerate the process after the PCM has been reset or the codes have been cleared? that I would like to know aswell..

I was even thinking of pluging the LDP or bypassing it so it wont get any codes..

Read the second part of what I posted. There is an embedded link that has a lot more extensive information. It could be a defective switch, purge canister, or something else.

Did you remove and check the canister for cracks? Was there any charcoal in the hoses you replace? And, do you have a LDP and an evap purge solenoid? I have a 98 and a 2000 and both just have the EPS. I'm thinking it's the same part, but was wondering if a 2001 had both. And not like it's a big deal, but could you put what motor you have in your sig.

Sorry, a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Sport Offroad edition, 5.9L V8. It does have the Purge solenoid, which I disconnected it and got a different code, and thats why I assume its okay. There was no carbon build up on the hoses and no cracks on the canisters unless they are microscopic.

Just wanted to say, thnx for all replys, and this forum Kicks A$$ thumbs up!

Just add that info to your sig, offroad model has quite a few differences. So you have a purge solenoid and a LDP ? Or are we talking apples to apples?

Its got both the Duty purge Solynoid, and Leack Detection Pump, like the pic...

Thanks for that info. I guess that is 2001 specific(another change to a 2nd gen to try and remember,LOL). Clears up some confusion on my part.



BTW, don't forget to add the info about your truck
