Well, today I tried to fix my cup holder, here it is broken

here is what i used to "fix" it
-about 10-12" 14AWG wire cut in 2 pieces with crimp rings on each end

-4 small self tapping screws

and here is the finished product you can figure out how i did it




I ended up using different wire because my crimps kept not holding and I ran out of the black 14AWG wire. So I used some white 12AWG.

So what do you think...and do you think it will hold. Haven't had time to drive around and test it yet.

 

Pretty good Idea!!! Let me know how it holds with a couple drinks in it and driving around.

 

thanks...and i definitely will make an update on how it works. I think the weakest point in this is the crimps. I might need to think of something to replace the wire and crimp rings

 

just get some soldier-on ends instead of crimp-on ones

 

If the crimp-ons don't work, I'll give the solider-on ends a try. They make more sense.

 

You could strip a couple inches of wire then slide it through the connector like normal but don't crimp it yet. Now pull enough through to wrap around the screw then crimp it. Now wrap the wire around the screw and screw it in.

If you do that the only way it should come off is if the screw comes out. Also since that plastic is pretty thin watch out for stripping it out.

I would also use some epoxy/jb weld/whatever on the broken plastic hanger to add some extra support. There isn't much worse then having one or two large drinks spill everywhere inside you truck

 

I will definitely try wrapping around the screws. I should have posted the idea on here first and got the help of other ideas before I went and did it.
