Default Freeze plug help

I just bought a 2000 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L. I took it up to the dealer to get it checked out and they told me my freeze plugs were leaking and would cost $1000 to replace them because they would have to drop the transmission and what not....so im just gonna do it myself. When i look up freeze plugs there are 2 different sizes. Whats sizes do i need and how many? and yes ive tried searching the forums and found nothing so far.

Well my buddy did one of mine. That was leaking he used a preasure thing on my radiator and i looked under the truck it looked like a waterfall lol. And he did not need to drop my tranny. I dont know wut he did but i asked him cause i was told by my mechanic it would be 500-700 to fix it cause tranny drop. I think he might of unbolted it and lower a tad bit so he didt have to competly remove it

Find out which ones are leaking first. Take it from there. 1000 bucks for repair, of which, maybe 30 bucks will be parts? Nah. Do it yourself.

The 5.2 block takes two 1 5/8 plugs and the 5.9 block takes one 1 5/8 plug and one 1 1/4 plug. You obviously didn't try that hard, because all I did was type in Freeze Plug and got your answer.

There are freeze plugs on the backs of the heads as well. Pretty sure they are significantly smaller, though.

J415 was referring to the plugs in the back of the block.

I would really take a look, and see which ones are leaking. It might be an easy fix for ya. The ones in the side of the block are simple. (though, the ones behind the engine mounts are fun to get to.... gotta dig for a bit.)

the plug behind the motor mount on the drivers side is preventing me from access and replacment...whats the "fun" process to get to the plugs blocked by the motor mounts? I hate a 5 dollar part could cost up to 1000...Im certain I can do it but could use some guidance
