Thinking of selling. what to ask.
Hello all, first I must say this is a great site and you guys have helped me a lot. Thanks!!! Well with another little one on the way I am thinking of getting a SUV.
I have a 2005 quad cab SLT V8 with only 43,300k on it. What should I expect to get for it? I did the rear pinion seal at 30k new tires and front brakes at 33k and new monroe struts, monroe coil shocks, moog lower ball joints and, moog sway bar end links at 40k. Over all the truck is in great shape as all it does is sit in the garage. what do you think? Also if you want it let me know.

Depending on the rest of your options (need more details about your truck), and if its 4x4 or 4x2, could be quite a range. Also depends on your location. Down south, 4x4 or 4x2 don't effect the price to much. Up here in the midwest, 4x4 can be thousands of dollars more than a 4x2.
I was just helping a friend look at small, slightly used SUVs (2010-2012 model years). The asking price difference in most situations was as much as $4000 to $5000. A 2011 4x2 small SUV with 30k-ish was "on sale" at $15000, where as a 2010 with the same options and almost 10k more miles, but 4x4 equipped, was $20000.
2005-2006 Dakotas half-similar to what you have described so far are priced at $15000 to $18000 in my area, depending on exact options and mileage. All 4x4s.

Sorry, It's 4X4 and I am from upstate NY. It has power everything 4.7l with auto . Also has the larger side mirrors, towing package, and soft try fold tonneau cover. Thanks for the info. KBB says its worth $14,800 in very goo shape. Do you think I could get that?
Thanks.

If I could get $14,800 for it now, I think I'd drive down across the border to Ogdensburg and let her go!
Upstate NY is looking a little down in the dumps again, I was sorry to see, so KBB might not take that into account either.
With the additional details you provided, I plugged it into a few places online. In my area, $14000 would be a good asking price for it right now, private party. You'd probably get $13000 to $14000. Probably $12000-ish for trade in, if you know how to negotiate. Dealership would turn around and put it on sale for around $16000.

If someone wants to pay $14,800 for it and you are only asking $14,000, they won't go higher! If you start at $14,800 and a potential buyer complains, just say, well, that's KBB value and act a little dumb, not too much, then wait for offers.

You price it too high, though, and people will think you're unrealistic and many will just avoid you altogether. The trick is to hit the high end of their sweet spot, not too high to frighten them away, but not too low that you don't sell yourself short.
Depends on how fast you want to sell it to. If you are willing to sell it a little lower, you'll sell it faster. For the highest price, you may have to sit on it for a while.

i just picked up a fully loaded dakota laramie a couple days ago with 95000 miles for only 9000 here in colorado its very tough to find cars made for colorado at decent prices that have ok miles. i looked at so many cars from subarus to 4 runners and jeep wranglers and everything in between. colorado mountains and winters demand for a decent car to enjoy colorado year round. so 9000 is a steal i could go ahead and resale the dakota for a profit which i will not do. i found tacomas that were 1997 8500$ with 180000 miles. 5 year older tacoma prerunners with higher prices and more miles than the dakota i just bought. i test drove a chevy colorado the same year more miles higher price too. jeeps are so modded and hard to find stock with any decent miles. and so many sellers here in colorado think its cool to show us your pics of you beating your car up across the mountains not cool at all. depends on your market where you live sell a 4x4 truck especially a toyota, a jeep wrangler. or anything subaru, subarus are gold here in colorado. i got a deal on my dakota just lucky right place right time
