Default time to stock up on 134a?

Read that Europe is beginning to switch to a new refrigerant, but the US has no phase out date on R-134a for the time being. Just wondering if anyone is stockpiling a little? I'd like to get a 30lb bottle, Plan to pick one up at Sams club.

Old article, but this is the gist of it.

oh geez more global warming bullcrap. and of course the new stuff is not backwards compatible. I guess it couldn't hurt to get a can to top off with and hopefully shops will have the bulk supplies for a bit until it's regulated out of existence? must have a/c here or suffering but that's first world problems for ya

I got my 30lb can yesterday. $79.99, I'm good to go for a while. Shops will have it, but they will charge you the going rate - just like R22 for residential systems is up to $675 for 30 lbs now. I bought a container of that little over a year ago for $400.

134A isn't going away any time soon. Hell, you can still buy R-12 and no new car has used it for almost 20 years. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I think you're missing the point. Yes it will be available, but at a higher price. I did a quick search for r12, only saw some cans on ebay. $300 + $50 shipping seem to be the norm. Not too bad, but still 134a is 1/4 the price.
