08 4.7 into older 3rd gen trucks
I have been doing some research on my crank sensor / tone wheel so I can try to get my tach working.
For the last three years I have been telling people that want to buy my 4.7 to install into older trucks that the 08 has a different crank sensor and it would be a big job to install the older style to make the engine work in older trucks.
After a few days of searching I keep coming up with 03-08 are the same 32 pulse tone ring?
So to put this engine into an older truck is it just a matter of swapping the mechanical throttle body off the old truck with an adapter?
Have I been turning away people for the last couple of years for no reason?

If the engine is essentially the same in that "year band", you can swap the entire mechanical system (engine without wiring or sensors) and fit the older harness, sensors, and computer odds 'n ends. I did this with a 91 Jeep YJ - I installed a 2000 4 liter. In this swap, I kept the old ECU, harness, all the old sensors, throttle body, wiring harness, and distributor (the newer engine had no distributor but used the same type of mounting for it's cam sensor). The only challenge was in fabricating a few mounting brackets because parts of the engine block were redesigned, so some of the old components wouldn't just bolt on. It's still running strong in it's YJ configuration, the mechanical system doesn't care.
