Dodge's Oblivious
Well, shoot, that's the same way the old Gen II R/T was setup. That was a sweeeeeeeeet truck. Drop in a big engine, lower it, a few other specialties, and boom, a real sweet ride. My mechanic has a 2000 flame red Dakota R/T that he's been trying to sell....sweet truck, shame I bought my '06 just before he decided to sell.
Shame Dodge didn't do that with the Gen III R/T.

Yeah, the doesn't matter...as long as they do it, and do it right...
Strangely enough, the R/T package is gone for '07, too, along with Night Runner. I wonder if they're planning to bring them back for '08 or if they're dead for good.

I said earlier it probablly has to do with ride comfort and aerodynamics, but also, do you think it has somthing to do with it being designed on the durango chasis? Perhaps if the dakota had its own true chassis designed for it, it would be sitting higher cause handling wouldnt be an issue. I could be totally wrong just a shot in the dark. Pratical or not, I think it stinks. I would have loved to do a 4"-6" lift on this truck but I was thrilled enough I could afford the truck, know what I mean?? So I had to go with a cheaper alternative, a 2" custom lift.
I hate pratical. I want to have to jump up to get in my seat. Have a bad back?? Sorry, get a cab.

And after 50,000 miles, the ZR2's are a complete pile of doody.

I'd beg to differ that, my friend has over 100k on his and it runs awesome. And he doesn't baby his vehicles either, he beats the **** out of that thing.

Has everything to do with ride comfort and aero dynamics.

Reason?
To give cars an even chance in head ons. A front bumper on a 4x4 ram now will hit the strongest part of the front bumper on a300 instead of riding up the hood like an earlier ram will.

Actually it isnt. Its not just Dodge, they all are (not including special option models like TRD & Nismo 4x4's). But ALL full size half ton 4x4's are lower. Midsize trucks are now going lowers. Most 4x4 SUV's now are as low as their 2wd siblings.
