Well, sounds to me like it is 1 or more of 4 things...
As others have said... a ground loop issue can cause hissing... Bad RCA's would more likley provide a whining sound... you know of those 2. have you looked into the possibility of a capacitor whine? some amplifiers make noise when hooked in series with a stiffening capacitor. I am just assuming you have one whith the amps you plan to run... My last thing to check would be crossover resistance. double check to make sure the crossovers are not blown. (I am guessing passive crossovers here... just take a volt meter and double check resistances. you can do it at teh speakers so you dont unhook everything...)
I had to ground my amps to the same spot the seatbelts went in. for some reason my small amp didn't have an issue with being grounded to chassis, but my D2400 would pick up noise and tranny whine... I am leaning toward ground loop due to this personal experience...
good luck.... ok, I have to go back to work...

Well, my RCA cables aren't cheap ones, at 49.99 they better not be. ;-)
Also, the battery ground is fine...
The ground from the H.U. I need to do I guess...
At 80% volume I set my gain to where it was where I wanted it, and it was slightly higher than halfway up.
I'm guessing it's ground loop....
Off to work on that issue now...
At 10 freaking PM... last night I was working on it til 2am.
Nothing I don't do all the time as is.

frenchy, double check remote voltages too. I had an older civic in today that was making some crazy alternator noise... turned out the head unit was sending a crazy high remote voltage. (14.4 constantly, should be between 6 and 12)

grab a handy dandy volt meter and go to the amp... stick the red lead on the remote and the black on your ground... it should read between 6 and 12 volts DC... most read 9.something... ksut something to double check. It could also just be a defective piece. DEI has good stuff, but every company has bad stuff come out or the factory...
I need new positive and negative battery terminals....
Can you hook me up Eric? I bought the ones from KnuKonceptz.com and they aren't that great, they keep stripping out, and my negative it isn't very tight, and my battery keeps dying because of it.....
Can you hook me up on a deal with a pos and neg with at least TWO 1/0AWG inserts and at least one 4AWG insert?

I will look at work monday... I dont know if we have the 0/1's though... we only carry the rockford bat. terms... I will check though.
are you using a breaker and fuse? I am just wondering, because we did a system in a navigator this week that was pushing about 3k watts. our garage manager said it needed a breaker and ANL fuses...

A lot, I have an Orion 1200D that will be pushing a JL 13w7 at .75ohm so about 1350 - 1400 RMS, and my front stage I am running an Orion 4004 to my Clif Designs speakers, running 125 a side...
I have a 250AMP fuse, the thing is a long rectangular one...
I believe that it's an ANL fuse

yeah, I am running a similar set up right now... but not as large of a 4ch. I just have a 150amp ANL my directed D2400 and Directed A804 basicly the same amps, but running 75 to each channel in the truck and around 1200 to the type X... I need a second battery, but there isnt a spot to put one... oh well. I am trying to sell my sub amp and sub, but nobody around here want to pay for this stuff. they just want crap sound that is loud. it sucks to be an audiophile... great gear but I live in an area that is too poop to buy my used stuff. lol
