But I also live in a different state from you....what is illegal in Alaska may not necessarily be illegal in Michigan.

It would probably be useful if you could find the statute that prohibits driving with parking lights on. A cursory search of Michigan's uniform traffic code didn't yield any references to me. Unless you're referring to the use of parking lights INSTEAD of headlights in situations like, simulataneous use of wipers (ie. rain), dawn/dusk conditions or even nightime conditions.

I believe he was referring to using parking lights in the middle of the day under normal driving conditions. I wasn't able to find anything in Michgan's UTC that refers to this, so if you're given some kind of hassle by the cops politely ask him to refer to to the statute.

Like I said, it may be totally legal in Michigan to drive with only parking lights on, but in Alaska it IS illegal to drive with only parking lights illuminated on a vehicle while it is in motion. I have friends who have been cited for this in conjunction with other offenses. It may not be that way in other parts of the country, but in Alaska, that's the way it is

13 AAC 04.070. Parking lights

(a) A vehicle must be equipped with one or more lights which, when illuminated, display a white or yellow light visible from a distance of 1000 feet to the front of the vehicle and a red light visible from a distance of 1000 feet to the rear of the vehicle. The light or lights must be located so that at least one light or combination of lights meeting the requirements of this section is installed as near as practicable to the side of the vehicle which is closest to passing traffic.
(b) Parking lights need not be displayed when a vehicle is lawfully parked or stopped along or upon a highway as follows:
(1) on a city street or alley or on a highway within an urban area which is of sufficient width to allow parking without hazard to other vehicular traffic on the roadway;
(2) on a highway outside an urban area when the side of the parked vehicle nearest the roadway is at least eight feet from the roadway; or
(3) on a highway when there is sufficient artificial light to reveal a person or vehicle within a distance of 1000 feet upon the highway.
(4) repealed 6/28/79.
(c) Except as provided in (b) of this section, when a motor vehicle is parked or stopped upon a roadway or adjacent shoulder, whether attended or unattended, during the hours specified in sec. 10 of this chapter, the driver of the vehicle shall illuminate the parking lights, and the headlights, if illuminated, must be dimmed.
(d) Repealed 6/28/79.
(e) No parking light on a vehicle may be used when the vehicle is in motion, unless the parking lights operate in conjunction with the headlights.

Just move to Canada, or even the greater Toronto Area in ontario more specifically. You see, we got us a bunch of knobs up here that cannot drive, and since there is little to no police, everyone drives like hell. IE, changing lanes no signal, not turning their lights on when its dark, going twice the speed limit. So instead of hiring more cops to keep morons off, we make everyone have DLRs. Saves lives apparently.

Blahhhh monday morning blues.
