My overhead MPG thing, is NOT right...

RE: My overhead MPG thing, is NOT right...
Ok, I went to RadioShack and bought some resistors.. I was told I need to use 4.7k ohm resistors, or something like that... I went down, they were outta the 4.7k so I bought a huge pack of them.... it had ones that LOOK like they are the 4.7k... yellow/purple/dark red(?)/gold stripes...the package said that it should be yellow/purple/orange/gold... but in the pack there was none with the orange stripe, just a dark red one, is this the one I need???
Also, I bought some 10k ohm resistors in case the ones I have are the wrong ones... what would happen if I ran the 10k one's in there instead???

If you ran 10K, it would read a little colder. I am searching for a resistance/temp chart for the IAT's, but I mihgt just have to pull mine and manually measure it. I know the resistance difference of the IAT changes with temp ranges too. It's linear. A set resistance will fool the computer more at 80F than it will at 32F, so it acctually lessens the foolong effect when the teps get colder, which is a good thing. Wouldnt want the computer thinkin it's -25 when its just below freezing HAHA.
Frenchy, if it's predominately warm where you are, try the 10K. Also, what other vaues did yopu get? If you Parralel 2 10K resistors, you get 5K total resistance, that is pretty close to the 4.7 which I, and others have used. Do you have a Ohm meter, the best way is to measure the resistors to be 100% sure. I never remember the codes, I know I should, but I allways cheat and use my meter

Well, first off...
If I ran a 10k in series, alone, would having it read it being cooler make more hp at WOT and increase mpgs at cruising speeds?
And if I run two 10k parralel, how would I do that, and that would most likely be the best bet, hey?
Here, it's about 90 - 105 in the summer and in the winter, 0 - 30...

Instead of using resistors
another option is to subsitute
another 'Thermistor' with higher ohms
at the same operating temperature
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/sensors.htm
compare to this old post data on the Dodge IAT Thermistor:
===
I then dunked it in a bowl of ice cubes mixed with water, which should be
32.2F
My IAT at 32.2 read 30,700 ohms.
{spec is between 29,330 min and 35,990 at 32F, O Centigrade}
(Ford Scorpio reads 95,000 ohms at 32.2F / 0 centigrade)
I then put the IAT in boiling water which should be 211-212 where I am 13 feet
above sea level.
My IAT reading at 212 was 670 ohms
{spec is 640 to 720 at 212 according to page 14-58 of 1995 FSM}
(Ford Scorpio reads 2,200 ohms at 212 F /100 centigrade)

RE: My overhead MPG thing, is NOT right...
Ya, I found out those resistors I had were 4.7k....
I put one in my truck, and one in my sister's liberty. :-)
I wanna go take her vehicle for a ride.... it's quite peppy with that little 3.7L...
Not like my truck, but that auto tranny makes it more fun to nail the gas... and not have to worry about shifting... my truck first gear just doesn't make it fun to drive that much...

Oh, and bkj...
The first gear isn't made to be driving fast... it's great for just slow driving.... but when you're getting on it... you almost have to shift as soon as you start...
Even though I'm going 25mph when I shift into second, it feels like it comes instantly...
