Over on the dakota durango forum someone with a 2000 Dak put in a 5.7 Hemi. Just do a search for 'engine swap'.

Don't know if that helps....

Anything will fit depending how much work you want to do. I would think you could cram the 5.7 in there without moving the firewall but maybe not.

IIRC the motor mounts had to be fabbed and the oil pan becasue he had a 4x4. Everything else was "simple" wiring harnesses, pcm flash (?), torque convertor, etc...

Okay... lets assume I want to get the most amount of power for the least amount of work. so I'm looking at the small 5.7L hemis or a 426 ... but I noticed that the 426 and one of the 5.7L's is carborated... and IDK what that means... also if I do EVENTUALLY do an engine swap besides the engine and manifolds or headers what else would I have to swap in order to get everything right?

I know that there was a guy that put a 6.1L in his dak. It was a 2005, but they were having a problem with the ECU.

You would probably have to change the tranny along with a few mounts. There's a company in Spokane, WA, that has a 5.7 witht he tranny and the ecu for $5500.00. I'd buy it if I could afford it and drop it into my truck.

Carburated is an old form of mixing air and fuel. It was more of a hassle to deal with because you have to manually adjust it for different times of the year.

I would think you could do the 5.7L and the new 392 and still keep it fairly stock all the way around inside.

If it were me and I had time and money. I'd throw a 528 in it with some F.I and have a fun sleeper.

That's the same guy from the dakota durango site.
Read through and it is a pretty good run down of what you are going to need...
