Gears!
Ok, so i odered some Motive 4.10 gears, for the chrysler 8.25 rear end, which is what my truck has...I even made sure thatit was the right set for the number of splines the axles use. I also found a great place that was going to install them for $150 bucks+oil. 2 days after it was at the shop, they said the ring gear would not fit! I told them, okay order the gears and install them, and i would sell the ones I have on ebay at a later date. So they called me back, and said that the gears were going to run $350!(the motives i got were like $170 at nationaldrivetrain.com). They had said that the ones i had odered were 26t, and i needed 27t, which is why the gears were so much more expensive? Does anyone know what the heck the 26 and 27 numbers mean? Or Is this place trying to play me for a fool, and order the most expensive gears they can find!?
well i went with the precision 4.10 gears for my 9.25 4 x 4. and it ran my 1600.00 for both axles. are you sure this guy is going to over haul the whole kit. the rear alone needs gears, bearing kit, axle seals ,and the lub. for the system. if this guy just does the gears and nothing else like the axle seals you will be back later for them. his price is kinda cheap. its just the number of grooves that are splined on the axle themselves. mine are 32. which means stronger. that way i can do these types of burnouts

I have a 2wd, so only one axle to do, and yeah i ordered the master install kit with the original gears i got. I made sure that i got the 29 spline, which is what the newer 8.25 axles use, as opposed to the older ones that use 27 spline. But like I said, the only thing i was confused about was what the 26t and 27t numbers he was using.....if anyone knows, please jump in!
what it is , is the ring gear teeth. compared to the pinion teeth ring gear teeth start at 21 teeth per gear all the way up to 52 teeth per gear. and pinion teeth start at 5 and go up to 20 you wont know this until you tear into the assem. i found an axle ratio chart on google and it has the break down of gears and teeth.
I thought the number of teeth on the ring gears and pinion gears is how the ratio is calculated, i.e. 3.55, 3.92........ oh, but if you are right, then why are gears only listed by axle, and ratio? How does anyone ever pick the right ones?
Wish I knew you were looking for 4:10s I just gave away a 8.25 with 4:10s and a posi.
