When the vehicle crumpbles, that major factor is it is working for you, not the other vehicle. The action of the crumple is removing the force immediatly, before it has a chance to reach you. The other vehicle is a minor factor. It was built for the occupant safety. Hence, why it falls apart.

You'd apreciate it crumbling for "the other person's safety" if it's their car crumbling to save you.

ever notice they never hit head on, its always to the left or right side. try hitting something head on and then take a look at the damage

You would also appreciate the crumple to protect the other people especially if the accident is your fault! I'd rather replace my car then the impossible of replacing a life. I totaled a car from the front end, the whole front end was wasted but I was able to walk away. On the flip side I was rear-ended while I was driving my 67 coronet and 15 years later have back problems because that car didnt give. Just keep full collision on the vehicle so as far as vehicle damage you never have anything to worry about :}
