Default Anyone ever install a mopar remote start?

Was thinking strongly about getting the 3 parts needed to add the mopar remote start to my truck. I found that I can get the actual mopar kit for less than a 3rd party remote start at best buy. I'd like to keep things as stock-looking as possible.

That being said, anyone on here ever install the remote start kit from mopar in their Dakota or Ram? Wondering how involved it was. The local dealer wants $186 to install it. One thing I am concerned about is the possibility of needing to have the computer programmed which would get me to the dealer anyway.

any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Your best bet would be to call the dealer and ask if the pcm needs a reflash..then post back here so we all know in case we want to do it...

also what are the part numbers and items needed

install kit (generic): 82208859AB 102.00
install kit (veh specific, 05/06 Dakota): 82208996AE 204.00
Sentry key adapt module (if needed) 47.00

I managed to read the directions, no PCM flash is needed according to the dealer I called and the instructions do not call out that one is needed either.

I get a discount at the dealer , and BB says I need another relay and the SK module for $100 over their stated 'basic install' price. So I'd rather get something made specfically for my vehicle for the same price and learn something while installing if I can.

You may want to look around some more, I was quoted $250 or so for a security system and remote start installed. I forget the brand but it was made by DEI.

My buddy just got his and I read the directions. It looks like you'll need to splice into factory wires under the hood and under the dash. He went to the dealer and they are installing it for 175.00. The only thing is that I’m not crazy about having to use the extra key fobs. My 07 Laramie came with remote start and it has a third button on the regular key fob for remote start. BTW I didn't notice remote start as standard on the 08 Laramie factory information. In fact I don't see where it's even optional. I tried to down load the brochure but it won't let you it only gives you a form to have it snail mailed. My dealer also has none yet. Before I can say what’s what I need to see the brochure since the web info seems limited.

remote start is standard on all trim levels on all 08's. At least from my understanding.

What I want to know, is if I install a mopar one on my 06, (let the dealer do it), if they can program the new 08 keys, with the remote start built into the keyfob, for the 06. I see no reason why they cannot.

If you have a three button key fob, I can't see why not. Mine is actually a four button if you count the alarm panic button.
I scan a pic of my key fob. I saw nothing listed as remote start on any 08-window stickers.

I know on ebay there is a way to add on a remote start kit to your car/truck and have it work with your key fob....its some combination..like lock lock open or whatever...wonder how well it would work in the truck..

In one spotI saw that it would not work with mopar security systems.. That would be rather dumb if you have to lose the factory security system to have remote start..

graythang - does your security system still work? best way to test?

Well everything is factory from the get-go. The remote start and security was all standard on my 07 so everything works off a single key fob.
