Default keyless entry problem

my keyless entry has been broke for months. im sick of sticking the key in the hole like some barbarian caveman. my dealer is 30 miles away and ive never been there before, as i am new to california. anyone know how to fix these programmers or how much it costs to get them fixed? i only have one so i cant do that one trick, and its out of warranty. sigh...

Couple of common things to check first.
1. Is the battery dead?
2. Is the soldering loose?

Both of these happened to mine. Fixed it at home, no problems.

Pull the battery cover off and check the solder joint on the battery contacts. Mine broke about 3 months ago and I resoldered it. Be careful as it is electronics. According to my Dodge dealer this is a common issue. $149.99 for the remote and another $49.99 for them to program it. Plus it has to be ordered from the factory based on the VIN#.

they have keyless entry kits just like they have alarm kits, go get a cheapy somewhere and follow the instructions...you probally get what you pay for though, i know id rather dish out the $ and have it on my key rather than carry around another little clicker

For the cost of a new key and maybe a little extra you could have a decent alarm system installed that would also give you the keyless entry and some extra security. I was quoted $325 for an alarm with remote start installed back home, decided to hold off a bit but eventually I'm going to have a security system put in and ditch the bulky remote part of the key.
