Anybody have trouble filling the gas tank??
2005 4.7L Magnum 4WD Quad Cab Dakota.
Used to be able to fill up the tank normally...i.e. stick the nozzle in the tank, pull the trigger and set it, and wait for it to click off.
Now it takes 3-4 minutes to get 5 gallons in it. Pull the trigger and it overflows, squeeze gently and it overflows, stick nozzle in deep, half way, shallow...makes no difference??
WTF??

you have some thing caught in the neck. last time you filled up there was a chunck of something that came from the pump itself and got wedged in the neck. try and stick a coat hanger down the neck to feel if anything is stuck, becarefull not tp push to hard, you dont want what ever it is to go into the tank. they sell a grabber tool at any hardware store, with claws, if you find out whats in there you could grab it with this tool and pull it out. also look at the neck, is the saftey hatch still atached or is it missing. this could also be wedged in the neck. its the little flap that covers the hole when done filling, before the cap goes back on
This condition is probably caused by either a blockage in your gasoline vapor recovery lines or a bad refueling control valve.
All car has a vapor recovery unit that collects the gasoline vapors from the tank and then, the next time the car is started, sends them to the engine, where they're combusted. Your vapor recovery system isn't working. One possibility is that one of the rubber hoses is blocked or collapsed.
The other possibility is that one of the valves involved in the refueling process (the refueling control valve, the refueling EVAP vapor-cut valve or the one-way fuel valve) is not working.
In any case, you should go to your dealershipand have them look up "slow fuel fill." for a TSB.

my jeep used to do this ever now and again... if I pulled the nozzel out and waited a couple seconds it would take fuel alright for a bit then lock up again... My dealership said it was vapor locking and they had to replace some vac tube or something...
Thanks guys...looking at the fill tube today I see no "flapper" at the top...I actually don't remember it having one before but suspect that there was one, it broke off, and now it's jamming the fill tube...probably where the rubber hose connects.
I'll check a couple at work Monday to be sure there is supposed to be a "flapper", and if so take to the dealer for a warranty fix.
Thanks, Bob

my dad's magnum did the same thing. he took it in and the dealership had to replace the whole gas tank. if i remember right they said the filler neck had a vaccum problem.
