Please keep us updated on the outcome. Has anyone brought the Autolite plug solution to the attention of a dealer. I have not yet changed to them, but if so many people have had good luck with a change to copper plugs, it would be interesting to know if a dealer has ever recognized this as an acceptable swap.
I had the truck at another dealer, the first time for that dealer, a couple of weeks ago on another issue and told them if they could do something about the rough idle that I'd appreciate it. From the guys reaction I got the feeling that they'd heard this complaint before and didn't want to deal with it again. Three hours later they told me that they only found one code and fixed that, which wasn't the idle problem. So apparently they were working the same way as my local dealer----"" IF THERE'S NO CODE~~~THERE'S NO PROBLEM "",,,, "" IT'S OPERATING AS DESIGNED "".
As for dealers using Autolite plugs,,no way,,God Dodge says "use Champion" so they "use Champion".

Well,,the issue with my '05 Dak's missing idle is finally resolved,,,not solved,,,just resolved. After 10 days at the dealers, they called and said they had a fantastic deal for me. After I pressed the issue they admitted that they couldn't figure out why it was missing,,,,,no surprise there. And after 5 hours (that's right,,,I'm not stretching it), of arguing with them I left with an '08 Dak. Did I get a "fantastic deal",,,yea, right,,they gave me more for my Dak than I owed and knowcked off $2500. I took it because after 10 months of trying to get DODGE to fix THEIR defect I'm tired of dealing with them.
The '08 has a few more bells and whistles, gets better gas mileage and it doesn't miss.
Will I buy another DODGE????,,,,,,No. I'm going to buy vehicles made in America,,like Toyota or Honda,,,,,,,,,,

Just read this thread. My dakota shakes a little, not bad, you hardly notice it. I wouldn't call it a miss, the rpm's stay the same. Is this the problem your talking about or does yours miss fire?
I still woulndn't trade mine for a new one. I did not like the console set up in those. I really like the nice big cup holder on mine, comfortably within reach and fits my big cups and bottles nicely. I'm going to try the plugs though, maybe it will help the mpg's alittle, who knows.
The vibration or shaking is like a missfire caused by erradic fuel distribtion. The RPM gauge stays constant but it has to dampened,,,it's reaction is too slow for it not to be. The vibration is or was so bad you could feel it sitting in the back seat. My feeling was that I didn't pay $25000 to have a vehicle run like that.
As for Dodge,,,,I asked to talk to the District Manager twice and it never happened. I talked to Customer Service four times,,until they decided that it was "Operating as Designed",,then they didn't want to hear it any more.
Anyway,,,,that's been my experience and after being a loyal customer of Dodge for 36 years,,,,,,,this is my last one.
