TB = 280 without core, 180 with core. K&N CAI is about $275, Gibson Cat Back $350ish, other catbacks are around the same, flowmaster is a lil cheaper but dont get the sound apparently?, Fan is like 2-300 I think, not positive on that one.

The sound difference before and after my Flow 40 was remarkable, but a CatBack would probably be a little louder and flow a little better. 90% of the benefit is just ditching that 3 foot muffler...lots more flow and a decent weight reduction too!

K&N CAI is expensive, but a good K&N filter is about $60...a clever Dakota owner could rig up a servicable CAI with a length of large diameter flex tubing. You could even replicate the K&N heatshield with some thin gauge aluminum and tin snips.Several Ram and Dakota owners have done it, and at least one guy said it made a noticable difference on a 3.7 Ram.

An aftermarket electric fan is expensive...but a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury 3.8L fan from the junkyard isn't, and is supposed to be a mean SOB when it comes to moving air. There's a good writeup on an electric fan swap either here or on Dodge Talk...I forget. Listen to your truck idle...when thefan kickson, you can hearand feelthe clunk, and (if you have a Flowmaster ) hear the engine load increase.A few HP are getting sucked up there for sure.

19 MPG at 70 is a little low, but not terrible. Also, you only have 2,000 miles...the mileage should be on its way up. Gearing, terrain, driving habits, etc etc...there are so many variables that +/-2 MPG from tank to tankisprettynormal...I'd bet doing 55.0 MPH on a freeway in Kansas would see 24 MPG or better...but who the hell does that.

Dan bores out the throttle body, makes the opening a solid 68.50 mm throughout, stock it has a slight taper to it....

I know there are tons of posts but I am putting 3.7 in the subject of this one. My goal is better mileage, I have other toys for power but this is my commuter and 12-13 is pretty low...

I did get nearly 19mpg on my highway trip last week, that was no stops for an entire tank and using cruise control in between at just over 70mph.

What are others doing and what gains are you getting? I am thinking CAI for starters, it doesn't look like K&N has one for the 3.7. I wrote to them and they actually told me to bring my truck in and they would test with it and give me the first production unit but it's a bit of a drive for me (so if anyone in so cal wants to be a guniea pig...).

I kinda like the idea of this one (and the price)

How about cat back systems, I can fab my own but time is short these days so a kit would be nice, do they exist? Are the plugs for the 4.7 mainly (improvement wise)? I only have about 2k on my truck, most of which came from one drive last weekend!
Who told there was no K&N cai for the 3.7? I've had the 77 Series in my truck('05 3.7) 2 1/2 years now. Great system.

it's not listed at K&N (or it wasn't anyway), and they have a list of vehicles wanted that includes an 07 dakota. Doubt it would be any different than an 05 though?

First mod I would do is add autolite 3923's, they are at walmart for 2.50 a per two pack.
