Default engine light

Ok, I have had this truck for a month now and it just gave me a check engine light. The light stayed onsteady for the day. The truck ran just fine while the light was on. On a friend's recommendation, I pulled the sticks to check the transmission and oil levels. They were fine. When I turned on the truck again, the engine light was off. Drove it home 30 miles...the light did not come back on. I went ahead and put the diagnostic reader on it just to see what it would tellme. It read "catalyst threshold fell below." It did not say below what. Would this happen to refer to those O2 sensors I have been reading so much about on this site? I guess I need to wait until the light comes back on before I take the truck in since it would be warranty. Or should I?

Thanks

So far nothing...Drove it all day and it's fine. Yeah, I will let the dealership take care of the issues, I just like to go in there knowing what the problem is. They sure jerk you around if they think you don't know anything. Half the time, I don't think they even diagnose the problem. They just hit the reset and send you on your way. Maybe the truck is just saving me the problem and hit the "reset" on it's own!

Does anyone know what "catalyst fell below" actually means?

Thanks

The don't just reset and send you on your way because warranty only pays if you find and fix a problem. The techs get paid by the hours of labor they produce so, if theirs no problem to fix then theirs no money to be made. And techs don't like working for free. Warranty does not pay to just reset the light!

Thanks Superdak05! I'm gonna go check it out and see what's up!

Rmudbugs, that was just my observation about any dealer I have had to work with.(this is not my first car/truck by a long shot! lol) I take it in with a light, they give it back with no light and say "fixed", a day or two later, same problem. Kinda makes me wonder...

Thanks again guys!

If you know the code number, I can get you the info on why the light came on. When a "problrm" is detected, a code is generated. The code can be an active code meaning something is wrong right now or a stored code meaning that something was wrong but is not wrong at this moment. When you turn off the truck and then restart it, the PCM looks for the problem again. If the problem is not there, it will store the code and turn off the light.
