Check your owners manual page 12....But you must have 2 vaild keys as stated below if your truck has
Sentry Key System

You will probably have to go to a Dodge/Chrysler Dealer to have it programed.

If I'm wrong, someone else please chime in......

From the owner's manual
Customer Key ProgrammingYou can program new keys to the system if you have twovalid keys by doing the following:1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition and turn theignition to the ON position for at least 3 seconds but nolonger than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition back to the OFFposition and remove the first key.
2. Insert the second valid key and switch the ignition tothe ON position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, achime will sound and the Security Light will begin toflash. Turn the ignition back to the OFF position andremove the second key.3. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition and switchthe ignition to the ON position within 60 seconds ofhaving removed the second key. After 10 seconds, asingle chime will sound. The Security Light will stopflashing, then turn on for 3 seconds; then turn off.The new Sentry Key has been programmed. Repeat thisprocess to program up to a total of 8 keys.

If the truck does not have Sentry Key System

check pages 25 and 26 of the owners manual
REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY
Programming Additional Transmitters
Vehicles will be shipped from the assembly plants with
two key fob transmitters programmed only for that
vehicle. A total of eight fobs can be programmed for your
vehicle. Additional fobs can be programmed to your
vehicle through the use of a currently programmed fob.
NOTE:
When entering program mode using that fob, all
other programmed fobs will be erased and you will have
to reprogram them for your vehicle.
Use the Following procedure to program additional key
fobs if the vehicle is not equipped with Sentry Key:
1. Enter your vehicle and close all doors.
2. Fasten your seat belt (Fastening the seatbelt will cancel
any chiming that may confuse you during this programming
procedure).
3. Place the key into the ignition.
4. Turn the ignition to the ON position (
Do not start the engine ).
5. Press and hold the UNLOCK button on the key fob.
6. After holding the UNLOCK button for four seconds,
also press the PANIC button within 6 seconds.
7. When a single chime is heard release both buttons. The
chime is an indication that you have successfully entered
program mode. All fobs that are to be programmed must
be done so within 60 seconds of when the chime was heard.

As VA Dakota sez:
You need two keys to program a third by key yourself, but only one remote fob to program up to seven more remote fobs. If you follow this link: http://www.dodge.com/en/owners/manua...meplate=Dakota you can download a complete owners manual from Dodge and it will give you all the directions you need.

I know Dakota keys come with the key and remote as one unit. But you can also pickup a third transponder key on E-Bay for about 20 Bucks the non-remote kind. It is a good idea to keep one of those in case you loose a key....it avoids a costly trip to the dealer.

I told my daughter to do this immediately when she bought her '04 Neon...woulda cost her $25 altogether...but noooo she waited until she lost a key first that set her back $250 for key/remote & programming.

I took care of this on my '08 Dakota within the first week. I bought this exact copy on E-Bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-06...mZ300209737303 programmed it myself and it works like a charm.

I also have a problem with our keyless remote entry system. We just bought a 2006 Dakota SLR from a local Ford dealer, and now we find that when the alarm is set, when we press the unlock button on the remote, instead of disarming the alarm and unlocking the doors, it sets the alarm off. This results in several minutes of frantic button pushing until the fob decides to satrt working again. Do we have to go to a Dodge dealer, or is there some other way we can get this fixed? I replaced the battery in the remote, figuring it may have been a low battery, but it didn't help.
