Mileage Max
Well Ive searched and read up on several mods that help MPG. Based on what I have read, would you agree that my best bet for a low cost mod with best potential increase in MPG would be an Electric Fan and 180 stat? Considering I'm spending about $200+ a week on gas ($3.81/gallon for regtoday), I don't have much extra money for much of anything. With the way the economy is right now, I'm stuck... Truck isn't worth anything and selling it right now is next to impossible with the mileage and moving closer to work is not possible right now since selling a home in the current real-estatemarket without loosing money is also next to imposable. No matter what I do now, our current economy is murder on my wallet.. and I'm sure a lot of others are in the same boat. Thanx Bush, your doin a great job.....
I love my truck but it may be time to look at a Toyota Prius orother small carand parkin the truck....
or i can live out of my truck and stay at work all week.....

i went on a trip last weekend and did 75 on the interstate and got 18 mpg. if i do 70 i get 20 mpg. i even have a 4x4 QC. i think that if you put exhaust with the k&n filter it will help out. i also drive a 2001 neon thats an automatic paid 2000 for it and i'm getting 30-35 in the city and 40-43 on the highway.
ZYKLOR - If you're spending $200 a week on gas, maybe the best idea is a small car for most of your driving. We bought a used Corolla that gets 35 mpg. The car payment plus gas comes to about half of your gas bill per month. I'll keep my Dak but put most of our miles on the Corolla and when it wears out, get onother one.

Are you sure you calculations/speedometer are correct?
I've been getting 18-19 mpg almost every tank, with very little variability...i generally drive 65-70 on the highway, now, and don't do a ton of around town driving...keeps things really consistent.
i agree, though...not sure how we're all seeing so much variability in mpg...has to be that right foot.

I would say that the 180 stat and fan are a great idea to help with MPG... for arounda hundred bucks you can add power and mileage...
but honestly, with a $200 gas bill a week... I would find a $1500 beater car. an older neon or something, and drive it till it falls apart.
I spend around100-150 a week on gas, but pepsi pays me back...

neons do get good mileage, but a newer neon will run you a summers worth of gas just to get it...
I think going with an older gen 1 would be the cheapest route. gen 1 neons and chevy cavaliers are super cheap with migh miles and still get around good... dont buy it to keep forever, but if you only pay 500 bucks for a car, it saves you 80 bucks a week in gas... it pays for its self quick.
and when it dies, take it in for scrap. you will get like 150 back for it.
