4.7 engine mods.
hey guys. new to the forum. ive got an 06' with a 287. i read an article where chrysler describes the difference between 2nd gen 4.7 and 3rd gen 4.7 and i didnt get a chance to look under the hood of an older one yet but i want to. anyway. i was wondering since all of us new gens cant find performance parts. arent the blocks and heads pretty much the same as older gens? from pics it looks like its the same manifold and such. but what all is different between the two gens. because ive seen superchargers and such for 01 4.7 and what not but nothing for the newer ones. check it out and let me know....
heres the article http://www.allpar.com/mopar/47.html

the second gens have better body lines IMO.....but then agian....im starting to like the 4th gen ones too......as fo rthe engine....there are lil differences between years of development in teh engine lines...its just you have to search the net and ask local steelerships about what you can but over the counter to add on and go find it some other place taht alot cheaper!
heres a couple places you can search around

there is an s/c for the 3rd gens (08's are also 3rd gen, not 4th)
but what we need is a programmer... to disable some engine management and traction control. Change some shift points and adjust the speed-o for tire sizes...
after the basics are out of teh way, then we could start to worry about the fun stuff...

I told you before, put in a bigger squirrel!!!
If you had a real engine (Hemi) you would have a tune!!!
I better watch myself, there's a new TOTM coming up and I promised I'd take the nomination this month if I was put up. So in that case - strike what I said above, replace with:
I've been pm'ing and emailing Superchips everyday for you guys to hurry up with the tunes for those fine 4.7 engines past the '03 that they currently support. You guys deserve the same tunes we Hemi owners are getting.
Damn, I could run for office...

Seriously though, you could bring a standard 4.7 up to 4.7 H.O. specs pretty easily and keep with Mopar parts the whole way if you had warranty to worry about. My GC has the H.O. and kicks a$$. I believe every component (cams, springs, intake, exhaust manifold (they look just like shorty headers to me), forged crankshaft, upgraded rockers, etc. are all available from Mopar, as is the special PCM tune for the H.O. Would net you in the neighborhood of 40 extra HP and 45 ft./lbs. torque rear wheel I believe...

A tuner would still be real nice to have.
Now then about this bigger squirrel stuff, Hemi? psh. If I ever do an engine swap on my Dak she's gettin a 5.9 Cummins. Since I'll probably never be able to beef up the front suspension enough to hold that I guess I'll have to make do with my 4.7 "squirrel" engine.
Superdak is putting out some impressive numbers with his and I'm sure he'll find more to do to it

yea see thats what i mean. as far as internals and arrangements on the block to be able to bolt up an older s/c. what good would a jet chip do than? ive seen those come in stg 1 and 2. what all do you swap over to turn it into an HO?
thank you all for the information.

no, the new HO's are the same motor with a different tune and intake... they dont really dyno any higher than our trucks. Like most have said, its an appearance package...
The 4.7 was good enough for the Ram for many years, its still a solid platform. You can do a cam and pistons and see great gains with it. You can be up to the stock hemi as far a power goes, without having to buy a 6000 dollar motor... plus finding the space to put it and fabbing up all the parts.
if you are a mechanic, cams are a matter of dissasembly-reassembly and a flash. pistons are a bit more work though. a complete tear down...
To be honest, I wanted to turbo My truck for a while. But now... not so much. I am pretty much going to stick with what I have and use the truck for what its meant for. If I want to go fast, I will pick up an R/T stratus or SRT-4...
not saying that you guys shouldnt keep pushing, but its looking more and more like the aftermarket is going to stay away from us. so he days of "bolt ons" are still in the distant future.
