Exclamation transmisson problems

i have a 2007 dodge dakota. its a 6 speed V6 engine and tranny. it had a problem shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. i took it to my mechanic that i been going to for 11 years. he said that it was out of sync. he said it would be 2-3 weeks for it to get fixed. now its been in and out of the shop for 7 months. now he is saying that it is a dodge defect. he said that there were other dakotas that had this problem. he also said that dodge would send a new tranny. that was three weeks ago. does any one know if this is a true dodge defect or is it a mechanic who wants more money? who is screwing me over? does anyone have the dame problem?

"Out of sync" isn't a real techincal term; perhaps he meant the 2-3 synchronizer was bad.

My 2007 6 speed V6 has had no such problems in 28,000 miles. The 2-3 shift is no problem. On cold mornings the shifter will bounce a little going from 1-2 as the blocking rings settle in, and thats about it. Once it's up to temp, smooth as butta (for a truck).

What was yours doing? Refusing to go into 3rd gear? Grinding? How many miles before it started happening?

I have an 06 dakota, V6 with the 6-spd manual and 32,000 miles. I have no real issues with it. I get the exact same thing cramerica gets when its cold, thats it.

Why are you taking it to your mechanic? Shouldnt Dodge be covering it under warranty?

I'm a diesel mechanic for USCG. I've worked on plenty of car engines, and have rebuilt a Ford AOD transmission. I don't see how it can take 7 months. Manual transmissions are normally ALOT easier to work on. I would ask him what exactly is taking so long. I would threaten him with a lawsuit. A transmission doesn't take 7 months to get or even rebuild. I rebuild the AOD in my house and had it done in less than a day. You are going to get raped on the price.

Well the it is technically not under warrenty. for some unkown reason, dodge says it isnt part of the warrenty.

i contacted a lawyer, and she said that all she can do is send a letter telling them that they have lets say 10 days to have it put back together and on the road, drivable. she also said that me and my lawyer cannot do anything. so they are witholding my truck.

Trusted mechanic of 11 years suddenly trying to jerk you around? I don't get it. Like MonkeyWrench said, why not go to the dealer first?

We still don't know how many miles are on the truck, what the actual symptoms are and when they started, whether a Dodge mechanic ever drove it or looked at it...etc...

As far as 'witholding' your truck, it's still your truck. Of course you want the shop to do the job right, but you could have another garage show up with a flatbed and have it hauled away...gimpy Getrag loaded in the bed...

Cool

well it has 8000 miles. when you shifht from first to second, its fine. but when i shift from second to third, it felt like it was crunching or shearing the gears. all the other shifting points are great.

the guy got the parts from dodge. he put the truck in the shop. i drove by to see if that was true. it was. i should get it back tonight around 2:30 or 3 pm.
