I blame Dodge on this one, the new Dakota is one ugly truck, the first and 2nd gen Dakotas were really nice trucks, having to compete with the Ram kills the dakota right from the start, for the same coin, you can get a bigger Ram, who wants to pay the same amount of $$$ for something smaller when you can get a bigger ram.
Also, dodge lost thier concept of a mid size truck, like any model, up selling crept into the picture and the great aspects of the orginal dakota being dead center bewtean a compact truck and a full size truck don't matter now.
A ram has the same drive train options as a Dakota and mpg are =, why would you want a Dakota?
Like any thing drop the cost of the product and thier will be a demand for it.

I dont know if you have looked around lately, but the "midsize truck" has grown for every company.Originally Posted by cyclone429

As far as price goes, I paid the same for my truck as I would have for a ram...
Why go with the dakota? because I dont need a full size. I am not using this truck to tow around heavy equipment. Its my daily driver to and from work... plus I can pull 23MPG on the expressway.
I dont love the look of the 3rd gen ram... I do like the edginess of the dakota.
Besides that, everyone and their brother drives a ram. I dont want to have one of the most common trucks on the road.

Park a 2007 Ram next to a 1989 D150 and look at how fullsizes have blown up. "Mid size" has grown with it. The only truck not to grow alot in the last few years has been the Ranger.

I pull 22 mpg highway with my 06 2500 Ram reg cab 5.7 and six speed,60 mph 6th gear, 1750 rpm.
mods are true dual ex, volant cai and cab high topper, I to admit I don't like the looks of the 3rd gen Ram and a daktota quad cab with the 4.7 and six speed is a blast to drive, but for me the dakota is a tad to small.
