Thank you guys for piping in. I was starting to think the Dakota was the black sheep of the family.

I like the 4.7 option because of all the performance options you have. What kind of gearing comes in the Dak's? Is it 3.55's? Set up right, a 4.7 dakota will smoke my 4.7 Ram. hhhhmmmmm, do I really want the wife's truck faster than mine?

I am sure the 3.55s are standard with the option of the 3.92s in the V8 models, dont quote me though I havent checked lately and I am going off of when I bought mine

The Dak isn't the black sheep, it's the red headed stepchild.

3.21, 3.55, 3.92 are available depending on engine and transmission.

Go with the Dak, dude. A friend of mine has a 2008 Tacoma 4x4 with the TRD package. It's a beautiful truck, don't get me wrong, but when it comes to pulling anything, forget it. We have about the same size of trailer (aprox 5000lbs), and he gets worse gas mileage out of his V6 than my V8. I have to slow down and wait for him when we go uphill cause he can't get past 60 Km/h! I guess that's about 38 mph...

You can't beat the torque out of a V8!

hahaha. Alright guys. Sounds like what I want is a quad cab Dakota, with 3.92 gearing, LSD. Is there any type of off road packages available? Also, what on your guys truck do wish you had when you bought it from factory. Fog lamps and such...

Yeah theres a TRX Model.

Only thing I wish I would have added was the 3.92s and the LSD, thats all I lack besides the HO and the Nav Unit on the Laramie. I am pleased with everything else though

The H.O. motor was only available until 2007 as the Dakotas got a revamped 4.7 for 08+, you can see the differences here: http://wjjeeps.com/ho_engine.htm#DIFFERENCES

'05-07:
4.7l -- 230hp 295lb-ft
4.7l H.O. -- 260hp 310lb-ft

'08+:
4.7l -- 302hp 329lb-ft

Options I wish I had: 3.92 gears, rear LSD, 4-wheel ABS (mine is rear-only). I installed a MyGig head unit which is better than any of the stereos I could have gotten in it stock ('05) so I'm happy there.

It's also worth noting that while Superchips has tunes out for the '05-07 4.7l they are still looking for a 4.7 H.O. so there are no tunes available for the H.O.s currently.
