The drain plug for the oil is located just above and just in front of front cross-brace...the oil dumps directly onto this and pours all over the place...

I usually can get it w/ a 1/2" drive ratchet. Was the truck recently running? If it's warm, then it could be a little harder to get off (just a thought, no actual science here). Also, make sure you are turning the right way ;-) I know it sounds stupid, but when you're upside down there things can turn you around.

It's a really messy job the oil goes all over because it dumps on the cross member. Make a ramp for the oil to flow onto. That will really stop the big mess. It hardly seams worth the trouble to do it yourself. If you look around someone is running a special for an oil change someplace. In reality it will cost you the same to have a shop do it vsd you doing it. Then you don't have to take the oil to get recyled.
