the 2008 model year was the first year for the new engine and front bodywork on th 3rd generation Dakota.

Edit, I re-read your post and generally the next model year is manufactured starting August of the year previously. However this can vary greatly and your best bet is to check the VIN number.

The vin format is #X#XX##P##S######

the bolded # sign is the year, it is an 8 for 2008 and a 9 for 2009

Ithink it is the end of July. Because that is when they usually start the specials and that is when they start the warranty specials and changes.

The 2008 "Lonestar/BigHorn" and the TRX models came with the satin/dull grille and headlight surround with blackout headlamps. The ST and Laramie came with the Chrome Grille and headlamps. I also believe it was the same for 2009.

dodgetrucker75: Q-Tip is right, check the Vin number

The assy plants shut down in July for model changeover.

Just my 2cents worth...LOL
