the 2008 model year was the first year for the new engine and front bodywork on th 3rd generation Dakota.
Edit, I re-read your post and generally the next model year is manufactured starting August of the year previously. However this can vary greatly and your best bet is to check the VIN number.
The vin format is #X#XX##P##S######
the bolded # sign is the year, it is an 8 for 2008 and a 9 for 2009

The assy plants shut down in July for model changeover.
