Default HEy Monkey, or anyone whos lifted a truck...

My dad just got the front end 2.5" leveling kit for his truck, it sits about half an inch higher in the front than the rear... I measured it today to show him, and he said we should do some lift in the rear...

Well I'm thinking a 2" block, he is thinking 1"... he has a 2004 ram 2500HD... the front is, from the ground to the fender, 41.5" and in the rear 41"...

What should he go with? 1" or 2"?

Also, neither of us have ever done lifting blocks, what all is entailed in doing such?

Don't be in such a hurry to lift the rear Frenchy, the front will settle a bit over the first couple of weeks.

But Hammer, he wants it bigger...

Lol.

He's already got plans to lift the rear to give it that raked look again, and then add 35s on it...

it doesnt entail too much at all. Just crawl under there, disconnect the shocks at the axles, then, jack the truck up and the the frame on jack stands, with the wheels off the ground. Disconnect the u bolts on both sides to free teh axle from the leaf springs (support the axle pumpkin with a jack while removing the u-bolts) now slowly lower the axle until you can slip the blocks in, insert new u-bolts, tighten it all up, lower the truck and reconnect the shocks.

I would do 2" blocks...to make a 1.5" rake. A .5" rake from 1" blocks wont be noticable, that will be pretty much "level". So if he wants a rake, 2" blocks.

Frenchy, it is very easy. I didn't even undo my shocks. I just jacked up on my axle, put a block under the leaf springs, and lowered down the axle. One side I had to tap it with a hammer to get it free, the other side just lifted off of my axle. Put a block of wood or something (jack stand) in there while you are working, install the block, wedge shape to the front of the truck, jack it back up slowly with the jack to make sure everything goes together right (there is little **** sticking up, one on the axle block itself and one on the lift block) these make it so you can't screw up and dogtrack down the road. Just make sure you get the right size u-bolts for the axle. The 8 and 9 1/4 are different sizes like you probably know.

Oh, another thing. If he doesn't want a big rake, you can get 1 1/2" blocks, that would still give him a decent rake. I know with the 2 1/2" leveling kit, the 2" blocks would probably look the best. With the 2" leveling kit in now, my back end sits about 1/4" more higher (is that even english?) than stock, a bit more of a rake than factory.

Thank you sleds, my dads truck has a 10.5 inch rear end on his...

you know which size u-bolts he would need?

The only way he can reuse his u-bolts is if he has an extra 2" of length for the nuts. Just measure the o/d of the axle and length of the u-bolts and get new ones 2" longer if the stocks aren't long enough.
