Looks like it is going to be an early and snowy winter. My 08 has the stock Wranglers on. They are basically street tires but I am thinking that in 4WD they should still pull me through several inches of snow. What say you?

 

This will be my third winter on them. I am rather pleased with the Wranglers, but I am just a minority with this. LOL Alot of the guys hate em. I guess its all based on personal preference and such, or because mine are the 18s?

 

If they say SR-A on them take them off and burn them. The cheapest, lousiest AT tire you can possibly find would be an upgrade. My old trooper with bald Michelins on it did far better in 2wd than my Dakota did in 4wd with the stock tires and only 11k miles. Put some real tires on it and it made all the difference in the world.

I was just complaining to my wife about them yesterday. She said I need to nut up and deal with it.

I agree, I hate them. Yesterday we got a little snow plus it was a tad icy. To get out of town I have to go up and over these railroad tracks in a very tight right hand curve. I was taking it real easy (maybe 10 mph) and letting my momentum help out. As soon as I hit the tracks I was sideways. So I correct, get it under control and get to the bottom of the other side. Once I get to the bottom I accelerate a little bit and I'm sideways again. Now I was in 2wd mode. Had I been in 4wd that wouldn't have happened (maybe).

Oh, and the other day we got a little rain. I pulled out onto a back road but had not seen this car coming up on me pretty fast. So I punch it and damned if I didn't get sideways. I find even in the rain these tires can be troublesome.

Last winter I had to use 4wd for snow and they did "ok". In the deep soft snow they were fine but on the hard packed snow they will keep you on your toes. I'm definitely going to be swapping them out.

I don't feel near as confident with these tires as I did with my Firestone Destination A/T's on my Durango. Now that was a hell of a tire.

 

I'm going with Firestone Destination A/T's. Gonna run me 700 but I can't wait to get away from this POS Goodyear SR'As. Which I woulda done it 20K ago!

 

i have the factory tires on my dak still, 81000 miles and they still hold well in the snow, i do use the whaeel drive when it has snowed or just because, but i have no issues with them

 

Well I was getting ready to get rid of my SR-A's...But the fridge beat me to the punch. Now I gotta wait at least 3 months. I'll be going for the Hankook Dynapro Atm's in 17".

does she realize that good tires can mean the difference between life or death in ****ty driving conditions?

I'm starting to wonder. HA! Maybe she's wanting to cash in on the big life insurance policy I have.

One thing about the Destination A/T's is that they really don't look like all that in the pictures. But I used to take them off road all the time in my Durango and during the blizzard of '06 they never ever failed me. Their aren't a great deep mud tire but for everything else they were terrific.
