Interesting point! That almost makes me feel okay. Haha! Now just to convince the wife to buy the tuner and flex a lite fan. Hmmm.....how shall I do this...?

oh...and dodgetrucker. I believe it was you who said that there was a fan adjustment on the SC3865. I visited autoanythings website and it says that there is no fan adjustment. What's up with that?
What do you mean the 'bleeder screw'? I guess I know what a bleeder screw does, but how would that fix my problem? :sorry if that's a stupid question:
The bleed screw evacuates all the air out of the system.
I don't know why it would work either but the mechanic that has worked on my vehicles for years explained that an air bubble can form in the top of the system and interfere with the coolant circulation.
I know that that the following does not resolve your specific problem but for anyone interested...here goes:
Three enhancements to gen 3 DAK cooling that I have personally found to work.
1. Cheap and very effective:
Rubber floor matting from ACE hardware cut into 3" strips and taped to the radiator shroud and mounting frame to close the gaps between the radiator and shroud.
Now, when climbing a hill and dropping into a lower gear (fourth,third, second) the increased fan RPM pulls its full CFM capacity through the radiator without the leaks. My temp gauge drops about 20 degrees within seconds under those conditions and then climbs back to normal after returning to overdrive.
2. Under $150
Tranny cooler with fan mounted horizontal at the bottom of the air dam between the bumper and lower radiator mount. Cut some slots or holes in the bottom of the air dam and make up a shroud from a Sterilite or comparable plastic bin from Wal-Mart to fit over the air inlets in the bumper and the tranny cooler to duct the air down thru the cooler and under the air damn away from the radiator.
3. About $1000 installed. Oversize radiator...Custom made for exact fit to all mounting holes. Double thickness of OEM radiator but it only cools about 20% better due to the heavier gauge aluminum than OEM. Requires trimming about 3/4 inch off of the OEM shroud.
Here is where the expensive mod helps: Hot day, high altitude, climbing steep grades in 3rd gear for long stretches...keeps the air temp through the radiator below the fan clutch lock up threshold and prevents the additional engine heat build up due to the increased load from the fan turning at full RPM.

4. What did not work for me. I installed a 17" flex-a-lite pusher fan on the front side of the a/c condenser-radiator. Required cutting out a 10 inch by 3 inch section of the horizontal box beam frame member that sits about 3 inches in front of the radiator. (Also had to remove the power steering cooling tube in front of the a/c condenser and route it through a 4" x 8" tranny cooler in the bottom of the air dam.) I see no temp gauge difference with the fan on or off under any conditions.

I run $50 14" Hankooks on all three of my trailers and they perform great. Thinking about trying the exact tires you're running for my DAK next tire change.

STICKY! Haha. When I bought the truck these tires were on it. I liked the look so I kept with them. I can hit the gas around a corner and w/ the LSD and these tires (w/ the 4.7HO) I can barely chirp them! Traction all the way. With my old 3.7 06 dak and the stock SR/A's I would fishtail alll over the place if I got throaty on the throttle around a corner. Now I have more power and better traction!
I have a few slippery boat ramps here in AZ and these tires could have saved me a few grand b/c I don't even need 4wd getting my boat out of the water. It's fun when other 2wd trucks are spinning their tires getting out of the ramps and I just cruise on out!
So far I have about 10k miles on them and have plenty of tread left (haven't measured)

I have a 07 HO and I tow my 5000 lb trailer in the mountains on a hot day and the guage has never gone past half.... what you need to do is test the coolant temp when the guage is over half to see what its actually at because you may have a bad sensor or pcm.
Yeah, good point. I probably trust Detroit too much. My first new car at 18y/o was rock solid perfect in every way and that has hard wired into my memory banks I guess.

No, but it is sold by the foot off of a roll in the housewares dept. 24 or 30 inches wide and about 1/8 inch thick black rubber/plastic. The tape I used is an industrial aluminum tape used on aircraft to patch cracks. Similar to but heavier than HVAC alum tape. NOT DUCT TAPE.
