I agree its about as cheap as you can go without taking the entire exhaust off.

Well from hearing Wyatts v6 dak with straights in person, its not that bad of a sound. Maybe we can get him to post up a sound clip sometime.

Not sure how the V6 will sound; probably not too bad, but I removed both resonators and the stock muffler from my 05' Dakota (4.7L) last weekend. I replaced the muffler with a cheap Flowmaster knock-off. Immediately I realized how restrictive the stock was exhaust before even touching the gas pedal. The sound was f****** immaculate upon start-up given how incredibly quite the exhaust was before hand. It was just hard to believe all that was hiding behind that cheap factory exhaust system. The best upside so far (day 5 now) has been the increase in performance. No I didn't gain 15-20 horses, but the throttle response is alot sharper, it moves up hills MUCH easier, and it cruises SO much more smoother than before. I can already tell my gas mileage has increased just slightly. There was absolutely NO loss in torque whatsoever given the cheap muffler which was my biggest concern. My advice to you would be to chop the stock exhaust, start cheap (but smart) , and work your way up from there. Don't spend an incredible amount of money on a high-priced dual exhaust system. You may bite off more racquet if anything, that you can chew. Straits might work, but it seems if your looking for a deep tone, you need to channel that sound through a muffler. I kept the single exhaust because I wanted to stay as close to stock as possible, and I kept the same 2 1/4" exhaust piping. Something bigger might work for your 6, but I would stay stock. I'm interested in seeing how this turns out. Keep us in the loop.
