Default broken gas gauge??

my truck was showing 1/4 tank of gas and died but it took 22 gallons to fill the tank so the tank was completley empty.

any suggestion on what is wrong

I'd say possibly a bad sending unit. I'm not sure how the level sensors are in the tanks of these trucks, but if it's just a float, it's possible it could've gotten stuck somehow and held a position. Do you run you're tank low very often?

when my gauge stopped working it was the fuel pump had a crack in it and was leaking gas causing the guage to be on full all the time

Advance sells the pumps. I'm sure NAPA and other places would have it too.
