07 Dakota vibration
Thanks, For all the suggestions. This vib is definately in the front, and it comes and goes. On one out of state trip it began
to vibrate, I pulled the park release and stepped on the park pedal till I could feel a drag. There was no change in the vib. I then stepped on the foot brake and the steering wheel shook BAD!!!! I pulled in the the next gas station and checked everything, gassed up and drove home, 300 miles with no vib. The dealer then turned rotors, drums, balanced tires etc. Last week it started it again, it was the first hiway trip since the work. Same
thing
, park brake, no vib, foot brake, bad vib. I pulled over to check it out 3 times after the third time the vib. went away and I completed the trip, 150 miles---no vibration!!!!!!?????? I am making an appt. next week. its still under warranty, only 11,000 miles on it.....Ed

How many miles are on it? My best guess is the the rotors are thin, especially after being resurfaced. I would also bet then the lug nuts were improperly sequenced / torqued when they were re-installed. The combination of the two will create an intermittent warping effect on the rotors that can come and go with braking heat cycles. It probably wouldn't seem that bad under normal circumstances, but on top of that, I would bet that the shocks are wasted, compounding the problem.....and you may even have a bad sway bar link (or two) which also compounds the problem. Of course, the tires must be properly balanced first.
I speak from experiance on this issue. When I first got my '06 with 36,000 miles, it shook like crazy on both ends.

I'd start by having the dealer swap all 4 wheels and tires with another set. Maybe that will narrow the diagnostic. If it still does it, replace the rotors. 11,000 miles...you should not have to pay a dime to solve this problem. I'd demand a refund from your dealer on the previous balance and re-surface as that obviously did not solve the problem.
Mprohr, Thanks, I will suggest swapping the tires and wheels but I am almost sure that they are going to wonder "what in the #$!! does he know?" . I think I will call them and request that they bring in a factory service rep. on this problem. I will let you know how this turns out, yes I believe they owe me a refund also!!!! Thanks, Ed
I have a 2008 Dakota V6 with the very same problems. I have only 15,000 miles on this truck and this problem has me stumped. Took the truck to two different dealers and they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and if it gets worse to bring it back. This truck used to be a joy to drive, now I don't trust this truck for any type of long distance trip. PLEASE when you get your truck fixed post what the problem was so that I can take this thing back to the dealer and show them what solved your problem. THANKS
Taffer, sorry to hear that you are having this problem too. i asked the Dealer if this is a common problem and they said no?! Anyway I took it in today and the tec. took it for a drive and agreed it had a vibration. He said he found play in both front outer tie rod ends and replaced both under warranty BUT also said my front rotors (that they turned back in october) were warped amd needed replaced. The rotors were warranty but I had to pay labor for installing them!!!!!! What a CRAP!!!!! I took it for a drive and it didn't vib on hiway or when braking but I wonder what it is going to do a month from now!!!!! Here is the history and cost:
9/4/09 8870 miles check for loose or damaged parts,
adjust tire pressure.....................................0.00
10/22/09 turn front rotors, rear drums and
balance tires...........................................13 6.62
(suposedly this was only HALF of the bill because Chry. agreed to pay the other half. I can't believe that this work would cost $273.24!!!!!!)
2/5/10 12623 miles Repace outer tie rod ends..........................0.00
replace front rotors...................................106.43
(here Chry. supplied the rotors under war. but I had to pay labor)
cost to me so far............................................... ...........243.05
They expalined to me that rotors, were "NORMAL" wear items, I don't believe it is normal to have so many problems with a vibration!!!!!! I am filing a complaint with Chry.

Thanks for the update longknife. I filed a complaint to Chrysler last month but it pretty much was a waste of time. All that I know is that this is THE LAST CHRYSLER product that I will ever purchase. I don't expect the truck to be perfect but with their dealer network {or lack of} chrysler just lost a customer.
