babygotdak, did you have a MIL regarding your Camshaft Sensor? Seems like something is tripping my Camshaft sensor, either bad data or a short.

The truck runs great in the open loop state, which is why it lasts longer in cold weather (takes longer to get to normal operating temperature). After the truck gets up to normal operating temperature in goes into a closed loop, I know the truck will start putting restrictions on itself for RPMs....taking all this into consideration the possible problems could be a bad connection or ground (would that show up in open loop right away?), Bad PCM, Bad ASD relay and bad EGR? I am stating what has been thrown out there. If any of the faults can be subsided until closed loop begins....thats what I will look into. To me if a ground was the issue, it wouldn't wait until the engine is up to normal operating temp, it would show its symptoms right away, correct? So it should be something that is ignored during the open loop while warming up? I am trying to use logic with what I have found out so far. Hoping this will help with some suggestions

FIXED-I swapped the ASD Relay with my parking lamp relay!....got back in and started up the truck and the MIL was gone. Took it for about a 40 mile trip without any interruptions....either its a bad relay or it jarred loose from all of the driving....Im a bit cautious though....I am hoping I saved myself from a spendy time at a dealer!

Time to start saving for a flowmaster catback system and other fun stuff....Thanks everyone for your suggestions....I got to know more about my truck

NOT FIXED- I was at an autoparts store of all places, checking out floor mats. Went outside to take off and the truck wouldn't start, it was cranking fine. New relay in the ASD, not just a recycled one.

Truck started up but ran like I am back to square one after sitting for 4 hours or so.....I did try it after about 3 hours, it started briefly then died out, I cranked it over again and it did start with some hesitation in the engine, I didn't have a ride at the time so I turned the truck back off in order to line up a ride for me to get back to the truck to take home. (MIL on now) (Jumping around in the storyline) I read the owner's manual and it said to hold down the pedal to clear the engine if it was flooded. From trying to start the engine before, it would crank good but it wasn't getting fuel, either because of the ASD or because it is not getting fuel at all, or for some reason the engine is flooding from regular engine starting.

I tried starting it this last time and it wouldn't turn over, so I pressed the accelerator to clear any fuel out and after about 5-7 seconds the engine fired and was running bad, it fumbled once in awhile on the way home (2 miles or so). Once back in the driveway I revved up the engine to find it is once again limiting to 2500 rpms before kicking back down to below 2000RPMs or so. After I shut off the truck I could smell some exhaust, not regular smelling but more of a diluted fuel/exhaust smell.

Something is either limiting the fuel, or it is being flooded. It looks like I will need to take it back in to see what the new MIL is....

i would say check the fuel filter but on our truck the only fuel filter we have is the sock on the pump it's self. i would have the pump checked. the cheapest way would be to find a junk yard that has one and replace it and see what happens.

CODES-I went out and bought a simple OBDII scanner (Actron CP9125)
Codes are listed in the order I read them, from top to bottom

P0129-Barometric Pressure out of range low
P0405-EGR Position Sensor Circuit Low
P0344 -Camshaft Position Sensor Intermittent
P0340-Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit
P0300-Multiple Cylinder Misfire
P0700-Transmission Control System (MIL Request)

Should I clear the codes and check when the MIL light comes back on? I don't know what and if any reasons for the codes listed in the order they did (LIFO, last in first out?)

CLEARED CODES- Read again and the P0129 and P0129 P remained (P is for Pending) The rest of the codes I assume are from a domino effect of trying to drive, and keep the engine running...Also smelled fuel after starting, and white smoke was coming from the exhaust while I kept the engine running at 2000RPMs

from what i have been able to gather it seem like it is either your ait sensor or you map sensor or a combination of the both.

Outside chance but worth checking due to the intermittent nature of your symptoms.

Gas cap not venting correctly.

Had this happen on a vehicle and it exhibited the same symptoms as yours. Try your truck with the gas cap off. It will give you a MIL/Check engine light but if it runs fine then you've found the problem.

Another thought. Water in your gas tank.

For the P0129 code, I took a chance and replaced the MAP sensor...after it was installed I cleared the codes then re-read what codes were left. Since I didn't start and didn't clear the codes yet, the 129 code remained. Started the truck and it started right up, no hesitation etc...let it run for a minute or two and then turned off to use the code scanner to clear the codes (I didn't want to wait for the code to clear itself). Started back up and the code was gone, took it for a ride and so far seems okay. I hope this was what started the chain of events. Get your codes read right away!
