if they are going to discontinue the dakota they should atleast make an anniversary edition or something like the viper and put all three gens back on the market for a while...this way everyone is happy(at least till the end of the year). if they brought back the 1st and 2nd gen i would definitely be driving around in 2 new dakotas for sure...lol but they would have to be the rt or a deisel, like ya'll said they can't keep putting out the 5.2/4.7 that every one has, it'd be a complete wast of time...

That would be great is Dodge released a anniversary 1st gen Dakota that gets 30mpg with a diesel engine. The webmaster of this forum should invite the CEO of Dodge to this website to hear all us Dakota drivers out.

They don't give a dam and they are broke. They are just buying what time or money they have left from the Gov. If it makes you feel any better your tax money is in your favorite MoPar. The Dak. as it was is done. I just hope someone buys the Ram and Mini Van line to at least save somthing.

we should all join togethor and buy up the dakota line to keep it from vanishing, and this way we can design it the way it was supposed to be designed(or design lift kits and such for them)

Did you read where Ford is also doing away with the Ranger for sure, at the end of 2011 (but possibly only for a couple of years). Not a good move in my opinion........the Ranger is the #1 selling compact truck and Ford is going to take a break????????

I guess with the Dakota and Ranger going the way of the DoDo bird, Toyota will have a field day picking up the small truck customers (although, the Dakota doesn't exactly fit in the compact truck class)

If they would simply freshen the Dakota's looks, redo the interiors, and give it more available power I think they would sell more trucks. It would also help if they bothered to advertise it. I can't remember a commercial for the Dodge Dakota.

If the Dakota does really come to an end its the fault of the company for failing to properly market the truck and to bring it up to modern standards.

Just read that the sales of Dakota has dropped 60%. The explanation is that the RAM only costs $2,000 more and gets the same fuel mileage. They said the unibody replacement will be delayed until 2012 so there will be at least a year with no Dakota. Durango is also being discontinued. That might mean that there are great deals if you want to buy a new Dakota or Durango this year.

The dakota's problem is not its size/mpg/or price because look at the tacoma. The tacoma is a very large mid-size truck, is the most expensive mid-size pick up and the mpgs are similar to that of the dakota or gmc canyon. The problem dodge has with the dakota is its marketing and quality issues. They need to find funds to fix the quality issues most common in the dakota then market the truck accordingly.
