New tires needed - looking for recommendations / warnings!
I happened to stop into the local Firestone shop (one of those Firestone Complete Auto Care places) last night, and they are offering buy 3 get one free on all tires. Not sure how long it runs for, but you should be able to get into a set of Firestone Destinations (or anything else they carry) for a decent price. Just remembered about it and thought I'd mention it.
You all have been a huge help _ really appreciate the feedback and prompt replies!
I'll have to think through the options, because I may actually end up towing a U-Haul trailer across country, but I'm leaning more on towing the truck (4 wheels off the ground). The latter is my preferred option.
And yes, the Sears web site does suck. It didn't matter what %$#@!*& tire I chose (almost all had the size in the description), it always displayed "incompatible".
Thanks again!

The Goodyear SRAs that come on this truck aren't too bad, but they are not of the same quality as the Goodyear SRAs you would buy at a tire shop. I know this for a fact, because I replaced my BFGs with Goodyear SRAs again, and the tread, and walls are very different.
They are actually a good rated tire.
I have run 265/75 R16, on the steel wheels that came with my dakota, and it was too much weight. I had a few front end issues along the way. Unless your planning on lifting the truck and you want the clearance from larger tires, there is no sense putting your front end, and rack and pinion steering through additional stress, I recommend sticking with a factory size.
I tend to like the BFG ATs. They are so pricey for a daily driver though. I found them to be pretty quiet however.

The tires SlvrKota22 chose look tight! And the BFG ATs are sick too. Budget just doesn't allow for either of those. Called a FS dealer and they have the ATs in stock, reasonable price, and I get a pretty good deal (not doing buy 3 get one free) _ 10% off and no pay/interest for 6 months with their credit card (plus a rebate I think, like $40). In speaking with the guy the FS ATs are offered in both a P and LT version...and of course, he has to order the LTs...which I'm willing to wait for. Great info all _ really helped educate me on the process! Once I get my baby some new shoes, I'll post a pic!
Guess I may have to up what I'm willing to spend. Sears web site is way way wrong (or outdated)! The Firestone ATs @ a 245/70R16 size only come in a P metric. To get a LT metric, you have to go with a 265/70R16 size and they are $190+ each. So, if I am going to spend that much dough, I may reconsider the BFG ATs since I can put those on without a leveling kit for the same price as the FS tires. Wife is about to shoot me over this, so I better pick something...as I mentioned though, I have to choose wisely since none of these tires are readily available _ all pre-pay special order.
For anyone new to the topic or going down the same learning process I am, this truck can safely fit the following without a leveling kit (you won't find this info on the door sticker) _ kudos to the DodgeForum!!!
245/70R16
255/65R16
